What makes P&O Cruises so special?

We asked guests why they choose to holiday with us. Here’s what they said…

Rather brief. I would have thought that a little more detail was required. I can't imagine anyone just hearing those few comments would then think = Oh I must book a P&O cruise straight away!

I’d say, from our perspective, it’s familiarity.
We pretty much know what to expect.
We are pretty much guaranteed to have a good holiday.

You're quite right. When I go on Aurora later with my daughter, I'm hoping that the familiarity of both P&O and the ship will help to make the experience an enjoyable one as it'll be the first one without John. I think I'll enjoy showing my daughter the ship and seeing her reaction as it'll be the first time she's been on any cruise ship.

There is a big difference between "comfortable", "familiar" and "special". P&O has not been "special" for many years.

You can be "comfortable" and "familiar" with any holiday destination that you go to if you go often enough.

Depends on the individual David.
We were on Azura a few weeks back and many people that we spoke to thought their holiday was special.
The more seasoned cruisers were having a few moans but the newbies seemed to love it.
We spoke with four first time groups who had a fantastic time and said they would rebook.

Sails out of England.
Majority of passengers are British.
Reasonably priced.
We know pretty much what we can expect.
We are so inundated with literature that it automatically becomes our first choice.
We keep going, so it must be OK, but it's not "special".

Pretty much what kaymar says. P&O are not what they were (but what else is?) but having looked at and tried other cruise lines P&O fit my criteria which is much as kaymar has described.

Of cause, you make it special in your own way
The entertainment may not suit you, but it does for other passengers, the tour trips may not be what excites you, whilst it does others, so you can explore on your own, maybe find a place you are delighted with, what maybe you may never have found taking a ships tour. The freedom to choose how you make your cruise special
So sometimes the food may not reach your expectations, but one things for sure, you will not starve.
We have a few cruises under our belt with P&O and never go look for faults and do not let little niggles spoil our enjoyment. If the sun shines most passengers will be happy, if it rains all the time you just suck it up.
Never had a bad cruise with P&0 and have lots of very happy memories of the places we have visited and the passengers we got to chat to.
Happy Cruising.
Don't worry, be happy

It may only be me but I'm finding the older I get the more feeling 'comfortable' when away from home seems to be getting more important. I have been looking at Saga and last night even dipped my toe into the Cunard website. I will leave P&O if Aurora and Arcadia are sold or moved to Australia which has sometimes happened with Carnival in the past. I see Oceana is up for sale. If P&O bought that back I'd be happy, not that'll ever happen. Previously every time I've gone back aboard a P&O ship it has seemed special to me, but not in the way that previous members mean.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there Ray, for us anyway.
We tend not to get involved in many things that others cruise for.
Rarely do a trip, just do our own thing
Rarely use the entertainment. Quite happy just to go for a drink after dinner.
Dine at various, random times so Freedom or speciality is perfect for us.
Quite happy to loll about in the day. We don’t need an entertainment program.
Mrs B likes the spa and treatments.
I’m happy to read a book and get browner.

Have P&O approached you yet Ray? I feel with those comments some well-deserved OBC should soon be popping up on your computer screen    ;)
