Horse Racing 2026/2027

Unread post by Portsmouth »

Welcome to the latest Horse Racing topic for 2026/2027 which will include NH & Flat racing

Hopefully there will be some looking in (even if they don't post ) who take an interest in some of the races & others who are just on here to take the
mustard ( substitute your own word ) when Onelife slips up with his Bankers.

Tomorrow has one of the big races at Doncaster ...The Lincoln ...I wonder if Onelife will stay with his choice but we will find out when he puts forward tomorrows Bankers. I'll be back later to mention about the big races at Meydan ( UAE ) tomorrow with some well known horses taking part.

Onelife's Saturday Bankers

Trying to find the winner of two 22 runner handicaps isn’t going to be easy but lets give it a go.

Edd Dunlop has two entered up for the first of these handicaps and whilst this trainer is struggling to get winners his horses have been running consistently well, with this in mind I’m going to take a chance with “Sterling Knight” 2.25 Doncaster, currently trading at 18/1. I can’t really see any negatives for a horse that always runs his race apart from his low draw (8) even so I expect to see him fighting out the finish. The trainer’s other horse "Pressure On” isn’t without a chance either.

Sterling Knight - £8 win £3 place

With the second of the 22 runner handicaps I’ve already taken the 25/1 to a £3 win stake about “Urban Lion” 3.32 Doncaster. I was going to at least double up on that stake but seeing his draw position I’m sticking with my initial stake. In big runner handicaps at Doncaster the draw tends to favour high drawn horses and the Lion has been allocated stall 2. His chance will depend on whether they split into two groups, if they don’t and all decide to move to the high draw position then the Lion is going to have to travel several lengths further to be competitive ( a very tall order) . I'm hoping they stay in their groups and race their line. The horse has the ability to win this race and while his basic form figures don’t indicate this he is undoubtedly the form horse in the race… along with La Botte who will start fav

Urban Lion - £3 win (25/1 taken)

The Doncaster card has two other races that are worth a little punt….

“Mitbaahy” 1.50 Doncaster has a long lay off (419 days) to overcome but if fit will be finishing better than most.

“Mitbaahy” £5 win

Only 5 runners in the 2.57 and they’ll all have to be on their game if they are going to beat the fav Docklands…but at better odds “Qirat” gives some value and if there is one to beat the fav then this could be the one, in what is a very hot race.

“Qirat” £5 win

…….

Sunday 29th

“Epictetus”. 3.30 Doncaster - I’ve never lost faith in this horse even though it owes me around £40…if he can reproduce the form of his last run where he was a fast finishing 2nd then he has every chance of going one better.

Epictetus...Oh No....It's 19 races since he won.....
Could he come 2nd or 3rd......yes that's a possibility
Could he actually win ? .....  More chance of Onelife going for a holiday to Iran

So as I mentioned a bit earlier....there are some good quality races in Dubai on Saturday that hopefully won't be interupted by exploding drones coming from Iran :o
7.35pm – Dubai Turf, Group 1 has 5yr old Ombudsman as favourite along with other good quality horses but I should mention that Ed Walker (trainer) thinks his horse Fort George has a realistic chance of being in the top three @16/1 a good priced outsider to think about
8.10pm – Dubai Sheema Classic, Group 1 two well known horses are favourites to win ..Calandagan & Ethical Diamond in a six horse race
8.45pm – Dubai World Cup, Group 1 ....this is the big one...forget getting good odds on the favourite a Japanese horse called Forever Young
However he was beaten last year into 3rd by Hit Show @80/1 ...could he do it again ? Still at a tempting 12/1 for those who believe.

I still haven't worked out my choice for the Lincoln but I was looking at Orandi but the last 8yr old winner of the Lincoln was in 1998

I think of overseas racing as something to watch rather than in betting terms. To be honest I don’t know enough about the style of racing or the racing conditions such as surfaces they run on to get overly enthused.

I’ve just checked out “Orandi” and whilst he has run some good races against decent opposition the states don’t speak well for his chances…I think the only chance he has would be if it rained enough to float Noah’s Ark.

Well Orandi did come 3rd in the Lincoln last year and won at the Curragh 12 days before that. What makes me think he won't win the Lincoln is that he last ran about 12 days ago and as far as I can tell only Very Wise in 2007 won after only a couple of weeks....so maybe a place bet only @28/1  Need to find a horse that hasn't run for over 100 days is the crazy way my mind is thinking  Your Urban Lion fits the bill in that way.

Also read about an unraced 3 year old entered in the Epsom Derby running at Doncaster for the first time...so I'll keep an eye on him as well

Regarding Mitbaahy, that's quite a long time without a race....apparently according to google, could be a deliberate campaign by Hills who wanted the horse fresh for a specific target. I see he is owned by Mrs Fitri Hay....I know that name, I know those racing colours....If I remember rightly there was ( or is ) one of her horses you follow that never really ran that well....I've forgotten the name  . Lets hope this one gets you a win

I was looking at the first race at Doncaster and it's one for unraced 2yr olds Blixen Force will probably start favourite but I like Dance a Jig but I won't be having a bet ...won't be able to get to a betting shop today. Bill the Bull is also one maybe to consider by new trainer Adam Kirby

Albert Einstein is at the Curragh and Ryan Moore came back from Dubai to ride him but maybe Albert is there more for the experience rather than winning ?? Maybe Ten Bob Tony will have a good run and beat him

Hi Pompey, with no form to go on in the 1.20 where Blixen Force and your selections run one can only go on breeding and their purchase price, and on the score Blixen wins hands down. The fact that you have brought Blixen Force to my attention I have just been on to Betfred and they are offering 9/1 about Blixen Force winning by 1. 5 lengths or more….couldn’t resist that price so have staked £2.

Mrs Fitri Hay….Yes’ I remember that name and you would be well advised to remember her horse “Purosangue” this season…the horse will be very well handicapped and I won’t be surprised to see it notch up a few wins this campaign.

Blixen Force, that seems to be a great little bet

Of course....how could I forget Purosangue...I wonder if he would do better if they gave him some extra weight and put him in a class 3 race instead of class 2
Anyway according to google his main target this year is the Wokingham Stakes & if the ground conditions are suitable at the Guineas meeting, Purosangue might run in that race as well

Saturday Results

1.50 Mitbaahy - 14th (last) -14/1 clearly very unfit.

2.25 Sterling Knight -10th - 40/1 Ran a fair race from a bad draw…they all went high.

2.57 Qirat - 4th - 7/1 never really competitive

3.32 Urban Lion -1st - 9/1 (25/1 taken) they went down the middle which helped his chances.

So in Dubai....Ombudsman & Calandagan won as expected but Forever Young could only finish second.

Back in the UK .....maybe 3 of his bankers didn't perform as well as he wanted ...... but
What a great win for Onelife...picked the winner of the Lincoln at an amazing 25/1   8-)

With a bit of confidence boosting by me telling him the stats for Urban Lion seem to be pretty good

Hi Pompey, I watched the Mayden races with both Calandagan and Ombudsman doing what was expected of them, but as I have said, I struggle to get enthused by such things as oval tracks and paced quarter style racing…I find it boring as hell, little atmosphere, the race tracks look like greyhound tracks and the commentaries are so monotonous…just my opinion of course.

Come on Epictetus…I’ve also had £2 ew on Dark Thirty in the 5.15

At last I have discovered where OL is going wrong. Something has been lost in the translation leading to bets on duff donkeys. I bet his bookie is a Greek immigrant.
I was taught to be cautious

Sunday Results

Epictetus 4th 5/1- The Pompey curse continues ;) :)

Dark Thirty ? 10/1 finished somewhere in Leeds

So what do we say in these situations…I doubt my £145 weekly profit will stop my Greek bookie from his Souvlaki next week but it does ensure I won’t be eating baked beans.  :D

I think there comes a time when flogging what is fast becoming the donkey you say he is a rest. As far as I could see there were no excuses for the horse so I’ve decided to take your advice and leave this one in the stable.

With regard to the Grand National Thread I normally post this the week before so we have all the declared runners and info required for our “lucky pin” users.

Hi Pompey, I’m otherwise engaged tomorrow but if I were to have a bet at Ludlow it will be on “Roysee” 4.27 - If you take last season form over hurdles he would be well up to leading them all merry dance. The distance is fine, the ground will suit and at 6/1 a fair chance of out running his odds.

I think Grand National final confirmation is Monday April 6th with 6 reserves
Final Declaration I think is on Wednesday 8th

I see nothing that takes my eye at Ludlow although I see Roysee is back to hurdles and had wind surgery in Jan so he might do OK
I was just teasing you with a little something

I might check out Trojan Fighter at Navan but wouldn't bet on this unraced son of Ulysses
