Re: Old, Recent, New, Members
I certainly do remember him and for all the wrong reasons. We were once on the same cruise. Self opinionated and egotistical, his table companions didn’t seem very impressed with his superior attitude either.
I remember he wore a pair of brown plastic framed glasses but the two lenses were different shapes. The man looked a fool but it clearly satisfied his ego.

I certainly was uncomfortable with some of his posts.

Actually when he wasn't attempting to enforce his superiority on the rest of us he was a mine of information and very helpful to beginners to the cruising world.
Yes I remember Dennis the Menace who was a very amusing poster. I wonder what happened to him?

The problem was that half his "information" was his own interpretation and was totally wrong from the cruise line's version.oldbluefox wrote: 19 Apr 2026, 18:46he was a mine of information and very helpful to beginners to the cruising world.

What I do remember of the old site when it was run by P&O was that when I was on a cruise I could write a message, a report of how the cruise was going by logging onto the site on board for which there wasn't a charge and the message would appear on the site. My daughters could then log on to the site using my log in and read how we were getting on. I don't remember how long the ability to use the site on board with no charge, you didn't have to pay for internet access to use it, until I assume P&O realised that this was what people were doing and it stopped. No free access on board. It was certainly a very lively site with lots of information for people and many members. I would have thought it was quite good advertising for P&O and may have attracted people who were thinking of a cruise.

Speaking as I find, Derek came across as quite fun when chatting with him on a cruise. He was wearing his funky glasses, one lense square the other lense a triangle.

In general when on a forum your personality can deviate a little from the person who actually lies beneath…this leaves you open to being judged by others, not for who you really are but how things are perceived by others…my take on Derick is that he was his own worst enemy when it came to posting because he did have an unorthodox way of saying things, therefore unless you have spent time getting to know him you can only make assumptions as to the person that lies behind that keyboard.
For those of you who have judged me….you’re going to be pleasantly surprised

Re: Old, Recent, New, Members
It is true that the picture someone presents on line can be quite different from the reality. There was someone, not recently on the forum and I'm not going to mention his name, who had very strong opinions about many things, like dress codes and abiding by the rules. On a particular cruise there was a meeting arranged for people on the P&O forum at the beginning of the trip. When this man introduced himself I couldn't believe it. This was a casual meeting and most men were wearing T shirts, or Polo shirts with shorts or in some case jeans or in my husband's case chino trousers. This man came with a scruffy white vest

Sorry this message just printed before I finished. Along with the scruffy vest were a pair of very brief denim shorts. I was so surprised. After the get together a couple of us went off to have coffee together and two of the people there expressed surprise at the picture this man presented compared to how he appeared on the forum. I suppose there was no reason that he couldn't wear what he liked at a casual meeting and maybe we were being too fussy. His attitude to dress codes expressed at the meeting was the complete opposite from that he had given on line. It was just a surprise.

Carole, maybe he presented himself dressed up to the nines on formal nights as per dress code and then dressed down for casual nights. My thoughts-
This nation is slowly becoming scruffy in the clothes some people wear to respectable places.

I know what you mean Carol…I have often commented on how dashingly good looking I am, which on reflection is a massive understatement
I think we all put together a minds-eye picture of how we think people will present in real life ….I have had the pleasure of meeting a few forum members, and in the main none of them met with my minds-eye picture….take Stephen for instance, when we met up I didn’t imagine him to be as tall as he was, come to think of it David was towering over my 5/11 height as well. Then there was ‘Mob’, smaller in height than I was expecting, with hair that was as white as snow.. So taking my experiences into consideration the only conclusions you can reach about those we have never met is that you are generally in for a surprise.
