Onelife’s Saturday Bankers

Sandown stage a few good races on Saturday but the two races I want to concentrate on are the 2.55 and the 3.30. The first of these looks to be a classic encounter with the top three in the betting probably fighting this one out. However, looking further afield I'm going to take a chance on “JPR One” despite him having been beaten fair and square by both Jonbon and Thistle Ask in previous encounters.
It’s difficult to make a case for JPR One but he was only beaten ten lengths by Jonbon and has a 8lb pull in the weight with Thistle Ask ... .the fact that he is returning to a shorter distance might just play to his advantage in what could be a tactical affair, so at a price he’s my tentative selection.

JPR One - £4 win - £1 place (16/1 taken)

The 3.30 is a stamina zapping test with some up and coming chasers on display….the one that stands out on form is “Havaila” with Montregard not far behind him. I’ve been struggling to decide where to go in this race but have decided to stick with “Resplendent Grey”. He won this race last year but will be burdened with 11lbs more to carry this time around “Pompey will rightly say carrying top weight isn’t good when looking at the stats for this race”.But at 12/1 I still think he’s worth a chance as I think he has been running against a better class of horses than the others have been running against and should go well with both trainer and Jockey in good form.

Moving to Leicester for my final two selections “Ten Pounds” 2.05 could have been drawn better but if on a going day he should be able to overcome the draw and give a good account of himself .

Some of you may recall that “Evelyn’s Phoenix" 4.30 was a winner for me last time out and whilst this race is more competitive I can’t see too many negatives about him giving a repeat performance.

For JPR One to win, he likely needs Jonbon and Thistle Ask to engage in a mid-race "slugfest" that softens them both up.
If Brendan Powell can settle him and pounce after the Pond Fence, he could out-sprint them.
Get back later about your other choices ...I'm in the middle of trying to book a quick MSC cruise for next week

Funny you should say that Pompey because that is exactly how I read the race... More of a hope than a realistic scenario, but at the price a chance I'm prepared to take.

As you said above, I think that Resplendent Grey would have a better chance of winning without those extra lbs but it is what it is
Hope you are right and he wins....at 12/1 that would make a nice little profit
As for Evelyns Phoenix running at Leicester ...every chance to come first again but seems to be drifting slightly in the betting 4/1 to 11/2
Think you have a chance as well with Ten Pounds but for my money the winner will be Prince of India

Jonbon was a non runner ....and 12 yr old Edwardstone shows he can still run a good race ....sorry Onelife you so nearly got it right
Ten Pounds became Nine Pounds...as they say so near & yet so far as my choice Prince of India just lost out by a neck

Ten Pounds - 8th -12/1- never seen with a chance - bad draw.

JPR One - 2nd - 8/1 - mistake at the last cost him the race - beaten a head.

Resplendent Grey - 5th - 8/1- faded towards finish. (Should have stuck with Havelia 1st 5/1)

Evelyn’s Pheonix - 2nd - 3/1 - had every chance…no good enough on the day.

So what do we say in these situations…just off out on the “Yellow Peril”

Of course I'll be taken an interest in the 2000 Guineas on Saturday but another race catches my eye....yes Ten Pounds ( or as i now call him £9 ) has been entered against Prince of India again and just to make it really interesting ...possible upcoming winner Purosangue is also in the race
Yet there are also a couple of good NH races the same day at Punchestown
Lossiemouth, Golden Ace,Brighterdays Ahead & Wodhooh are all entered in the Irish EBF Mares Champion Hurdle

Anyway a long time to go before Saturday but I expect you'll be jumping on the Yellow Peril to have a nice cup of tea in Bet Fred later in the week

Good morning Pompey, I've got a few horses on my radar this coming week, not to mention the fiver I’ve had on Montezuma today. But before we get into that do you have access to the Sporting life replays? If so take a look at the tragic events of yesterday where we lost Thistle Ask…it is my opinion that the horse was injured prior to the fence…take a look at his gait approaching the fence and I think you’ll see his stride pattern shortening, thus resulting in him hardly being able to get his front legs off the ground….awful shame for all involved.

I see Epictetus is out again tomorrow so it looks like it could be a costly week with Purosangue running as well. I don’t know where it will be coming from but any rain will help its chances. As you say, some good races at Punchestown this week.

My last tip is that you all go out and buy yourselves an e-bike, doing so for me was a necessity as I voluntarily surrendered my driving licence due to as yet unresolved eye issues…just love riding around the lovely Shropshire Country side…i’ve currently done 84 rides which see me fast approaching 1,000 miles…I’ve climbed Mount Everest the equivalent of 4 times and I’m still on my first bottle of Lemonade… such as my fitness levels having improved.

Hi Onelife, didn't get to see that video although I tried.
Montezuma just missed out coming second....as you say you have a few horses on your Radar....Wouldn't be surprised if one was Il Etait Temps running at Punchestown on Tuesday Running against Marine Nationale & Majborough although seems to be starting as favourite.
I will have an interest in one of the horses running in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom as I already have an anti-post bet for the Derby and if he wins on Tuesday his odds will probably drop.

I didn't realise that Epictetus was running tomorrow...he will probably be fav / 2nd fav but Primo Lava who has had wind surgery might be a danger despite the long layoff. Evelyns Phoenix won his race despite the long layoff.
Think Epictetus will make the top 3 but still don't see him winning Good luck with keeping faith

Hi Pompey, Epictetus is fast becoming the nearly horse…2nd beaten a neck…I don’t think Saffie followed your instructions because she gave him far much to do…not the best of rides Saffie, but hey ho thats racing.

Yes, in my opinion Saffie didn't do enough...left too long in the rear with too much to do...Oisin Murphy or Ryan Moore would have had him winning by a half length
