Baltics Cruise - thoughts on excursions please

Hi all!

We are booked on Oriana next May (X410) and cannot wait! We are already thinking about the destinations and whether it is worth doing P&O excursions or making our own way.....so we wondered what you all thought and have experienced before!

We are stopping at:

Stockholm for most of one day

Tallinn for one day

St Petersburg for at least one and a half days

Warnemunde for most of a day

Copenhagen for most of a day

And

Kristiansand for most of a day.....

Worth paying for excursions or not? And if so, which ones??

We recently did the Baltics on Celebrity but our ships excursions were in accessible coaches so cannot compare with normal able bodied tours.
However Warnemunde and Rostock is easy to DIY, unless you want to spend 6 hours on a coach to Berlin and back. Similarly Copenhagen is easy to DIY, as are Stockholm and Tallin, all 3 can be done on foot, using the shuttle were necessary, and most places have HoHo buses, some of which come right into the port area.
For St Pete you will need to be on an official tour to use the group visa system, but there are lots of tour companies you can book on line, as alternatives to ships tours.

Think Mary Rose, but a complete ship. It was very very interesting. It was very easy to walk to from the ship.

Hello, Ian and Sarah and welcome to the forum.

As RB1961 says, there are some existing threads on here about cruising to Baltic. If you click on "Board Index" above, scroll down to "Destinations", then down to "Europe", then "The Baltic" you should find half a dozen previous threads all connected with cruises to that region, containing the thoughts and suggestions of members who have been there. Hopefully these will give you some ideas and leave you looking forward even more to what I'm sure will be a wonderful experience for you. Have fun

Highly recommended. On our visit the water bus went straight from the ship to the Vasa.
