If a P&O ship was to go

If one of the P&O ships is to go when the new ship arrives in 2015 which do you think it will be and why.

I would have set this up as a poll but can't see how to do it.

I don't know which one it would be likely to be, but I think it SHOULD be Oriana - very odd layout and we found horribly claustrophobic, and/or Oceana - rather "in your face" brash and always felt very crowded.

But as we rarely cruise with P&O these days, it doesn't matter to us.

Azura or Ventura. We shall never sail on either. We prefer any of the others.

I'd say Oriana. On our last cruise we had a fire in the engine room, broke down completely in the middle of nowhere and all the lights went out, suffered another breakdown and had that constant shudder in the dining room resulting in cutlery dancing on the plates. Probably the noisiest dining room in the fleet. I doubt I will sail on her again.

A difficult one this.

Based on age then it would be Oriana - but she is an adult only ship, unless there was to be a change in policy about adult only ships

On the basis that the new ship will be a family ship then I would go for Oceana

A pity as she is my favourite P&O ship and IMO not at all crowded, certainly less crowded than Ventura.

For me it would be Oriana just did not enjoy the ship. As for a ship going surely that decision has already been made by P&O as Ventura starts from the Med next year.

For me it is also Oriana as I didn't like the layout.

Wouldn't vote for Oceana as this used to be one of my favourites and sentimentally it was the first ship we cruised on.

we voted for ventura as we would not go on any of the bigger ships our favourite is oriana as we have never had any complaints about this ship our next favourite is aroura as on both of these there is lots of deck space and you can always find a sunbed or chair

I'm also voting for the Ventura, although rumour has it that it will be the Oceana. I think with a large ship coming P&O will practically have to give cabins away to fill up 3 large ships. I've only been on the Oriana once. We were in the Oriental and the judder didn't bother me at all. She's my second favourite ship, because she's so similar to the Aurora. I'm not keen to try the large ships too many people for me

Not that it will happen but my vote goes to Ventura even though I’ve never cruised on her. I have sailed on her sister ship Azura and found her far too big for my liking.

Out of the others ...Adonia looks far more appealing from the inside than it does on the out so she could be a contender for the scrap yard.

Answering the question posed - which do you think it would be, as opposed to which you would prefer it to be - I would go for Oriana. She is the oldest ship in the fleet, has always suffered from excessive vibrations at the stern, and has relatively few balconies in an era when passengers increasingly expect one.

I would probably choose Oriana partly because of the judder at the back, remember having cutlery jumping around. It's funny that some people say Oriana and Aurora are very similar but neither of us took to Oriana, we've been on her twice, but when we were on Aurora recently for a short cruise we really liked her.
Oceana is one of our favourites and we have cruised on her several times, mostly in the Caribbean but also in the Mediterranean and would be sad to see her go. No-one has mentioned Arcadia - we were on her back in June and I really missed not having a proper atrium - there didn't seem to be a real heart of the ship. I know some people really love her. I didn't like the purple and grey décor either but that's just me, lots of swirly carpets. Surely even with the advent of the ever large ships P&O will have to keep some smaller ships as not everyone will be persuaded to cruise on the huge ones.

Someone on another thread said the new ship is called Canberra, earlier on this one Davecttr said it's Olympia....

Several folks have said that Oceana is going to the Australian fleet. I much prefer her to Oriana and have now booked our 6th cruise on Oceana. I would be sad to see her leave the UK-based fleet.

Although we found nothing wrong with Oriana, I think she should be the one to go, purely on age grounds, as has already been said by others.

I voted for Oceana because I think she WILL go. I think Oriana SHOULD go because of the now unacceptable level of vibration at the aft, but having been built for the British market, would probably not be to other cultures' tastes. I would LIKE Arcadia to go because I don't like her - purely subjective. I find her depressing and claustrophobic and couldn't wait to get off her the whole fortnight.

It seems an eternity since I last set foot on Oceana but hope it won’t be the last. As you know we were booked on her this year but it got cancelled.

You’ll love the prom deck as there is plenty of room for you to stagger back after one of your notorious nights out

My favourite venue of all was “Starlight’s”. Nice comfortable seating with conveniently placed tables on which to place your drinks ...while watching the evening entertainment.

I would not dare to be so presumptious as to say you would find the Oceana agreeable just because I lilke her.

I've posted some photos for your delectation.

Oceana has the reputation of being the friendliest ship in the fleet. We've certainly found her to have a very friendly atmosphere.

It is said that she has the best atrium in the fleet - I think it is stunning.

We consider the facilities to be excellent. She is easy to get around - the two theatres, pub (Yacht and Compass), Tiffany's, photo-gallery, art gallery, library, card room, Le Club and Magnums champagne bar are all on the Promenade deck (7). The casino, Winners' Bar (which is what I would imagine a lap-dancing club to look like), and Cafe Jardine are upstairs at the top of the atrium. Deck 6 has the shops and the Club dining restaurant (Adriatic). Deck 5 has the Freedom dining restaurant, reception and the Explorers bar at the foot of the atrium.

My only complaint is that there has been insufficient indoor seating, but this will have been alleviated with the revamp of Le Club, which is altogether much lighter during the day. I don't know what it is like in the evenings as we have always tried to find a seat in Tiffany's on Deck 7.

We first went on her in 2007. Prior to that, we did a transatlantic on the QM2 in 2004 and, to be honest, I was very disappointed for the first few days. It was then explained to me that an ocean liner is a totally different animal to a cruise ship. Once I'd got my head around that, I found that I loved the Oceana and, in fact, I now prefer her to the QM2, lovely as that ship is.
