For the record, I believe we should be proceeding very cautiously.

It appears that the pandemic is growing again here, so the current restrictions aren't containing it, so it looks to me to be the wrong time to be making the restrictions even looser.

Also the population is still only partially vaccinated - they should at least wait until more people are fully vaccinated.

This date of 21st June seems to have become an important talisman. I'm not sure why, as it's supposed to be about the data, not the dates.
I'm with you Gill for a little caution. Boris originally said that all restrictions would be lifted " not before" 21st June, not "on" 21st June. It is the media who have made it the latter. I'd rather pause for a couple of weeks than charge ahead and then have to retreat again.

I'm particularly nervous as we've just had a blip locally focussed on three schools and two hospitality venues including some Delta variant cases. Anyone with connections to any local school was asked to test, which we did because of our grandchildren being pupils. Fortunately negative. They're also establishing a centre at our local community hospital next week for a vaccine blitz. Hope they nip it in the bud.
In my local area we haven’t had any cases for a couple of months, until last week, when we seem to be in a cluster. Hopefully, they’ll be able to quash it, but it’s a reminder that Covid hasn’t gone away.

I think ‘living with it’ will entail changing our behaviour over the medium term, but I’m not sure if people will be willing to do that

That is very likely. Social distancing and mask wearing may well be with us for another while (for periods of time). I have no issue with social distancing since I think it is nice to actually have your own space, but I will be glad to lose the mask (albeit that I choose to wear one despite not having to).

Mask wearing for folks who wear glasses is doomed to failure and the measured social distance will get shorter and shorter ... I'm perfectly ok with all that but will not be starting my latest new life for at least a few more weeks as much as we would wish to.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

So now we have the newly renamed Delta Variant so as not to cause distress to a certain country.
When will the Kent variant be renamed to avoid mental health problems for the people's of Kent, the opening of fitness places was touted as reducing mental health problem. Really!!!
Don't worry, be happy

Not sure the name is going to go down too well with the Queen, unless they got permission first.

Why do Germany, Italy and Spain now have lower cases than the UK,
Are they testing the same number that the UK is testing? The more you test the more positive results you will get.
I had not realised just how many more tests we were undertaking compared with the ROW.
The UK figures are 2.74m tests per million population, the equivalent figures for our near neighbours are,
France 1 32m, Italy 1.1m, Spain 1.06m, Germany 0.73m, Russia 0.65m.
No wonder we are showing a much higher infection rate than everyone else.

I would have thought the Queen will be well chuffed knowing one of her great grandchildren will be named after her. I’m particularly pleased that Lili has been given the name of her late grandmother Diana.

Congratulations to both of them :D

Don't have a problem with Diana but after the way they have treated the Royal family I cannot agree with Lilibet.

Anyway not interested in anything that they do - just as long as they don't come back to the UK

I thought they wanted a life away from media attention. Why then we keep hearing about them every time you watch the news?

It was the WHO’s decision to name the variants with letters from the Greek alphabet.

The Kent variant (known as the English variant or the U.K. variant overseas) is now the Alpha variant.

It’s already been established that Meghan’s father told a pack of lies about her…convenient that none of you dared to mention this in your attacks against her.

The “Show girl” never stood a chance in an establishment that commands conformity in everything you do or say. They are best out of it and I for one respect them for doing so.

I’m happy to see them doing interviews (and getting paid for it where they see fit) And I wish Harry all the best in his new career…. nice to see one of the son’s doing a proper job.

We’re all better off with them out of it.

Absolutely glad to see the back of her.

Hopefully the U.K. press will stop giving them the oxygen of publicity and they can move on, doing what they want.

Bye Megan, and don’t let the door hit you on the a’se on the way out.

Just been reading about some woman trying to get home from Portugal before isolation kicks in tomorrow. One of the reasons she cannot do isolation is that she has a relative who needs daily care - so this relative can manage while she is on her jollies but not the rest of the time?

Some people do themselves no favours!

I would think that only Meghan and her father know which of the two of them is lying.
Well the showgirl was given ample warning of what was expected of her, and how she would be constantly under the media spotlight, so maybe she only has herself to blame.
If Harry and Meghan were simply Mr & Mrs Mountbatton-Windsor, then their fees would be far less than they are whilst continuing to trade on their Royal connection.
As regards the Cambridges, I think you are in a small minority if you consider how they go about their public duties does not constitute a proper job.

We watched a recorded TV prog last night. In part it was about the service of £100 ( with tip ) afternoon teas in one of the London Hotels, the staff had to cow-tow around the so called celebrities .... in this instance Gloria Hunniford. Seems nice enough but hardly a celebrity surely ?

Hi John…I have noticed you haven’t been as active on the forum of late…. I hope it’s nothing more than Screwy’s boring posts :sarcasm: about Onelife keeping you away?

“I would think that only Meghan and her father know which of the two of them is lying”.

Not exactly John, me and a few million others watched the “Good Morning Britain” interview in which Meghan’s father admitted to telling lies about his daughter. I did post the link a few months back but I’m sure you will find it should you doubt my words.

There is no doubt in my mind that Meghan’s father/family contributed significantly to why Meghan was hounded by the UK press with all the unsubstantiated garbage they wrote about her.

With regard the Cambridges I have a lot of respect for Kathrine….I can’t tell you what I think about her other half as I’ve been warned off from doing so.

I saw that and wondered, was he lying then or lying now - it is not beyond reason for him to have been honest back then but now being paid to protect his daughter? Mind you a lot of what Samantha said seems to have been more truthful than it first appeared.
