Is it just me that doesn't get why this black footballer coming out as gay is news? He's not the first black footballer. He's not the first gay footballer. He's not even the first black gay footballer. And who cares? All that matters is whether he's any good at the game or not. Whether he's black or white or brown or yellow is irrelevant. As is his sexuality, which is actually nobody's business beyond him and potential sexual partners.

He definitely looked white to me but tbh I'm not bothered whether he is gay, black, blue or whatever. Does it really matter?
Why does the media have to make such a song and dance about these issues? Not allowed to live and let live nowadays without someone pushing a social cause down your throat.

I rather think the point being made is that he is only the second footballer ever to come out as gay while he is still playing. So either football bucks the national statistics for percentage of people who are gay, or the culture deters them from being honest.

But what does it matter, if at all? There's gay rugby players, gay athletes, gay policemen, gay soldiers, gay teachers and ultimately if they do their job properly I'm not really bothered what they do in their own time as long as it's lawful.
We lived and worked in Blackpool for a long time where there is a strong gay community. It wasn't a problem.

Being openly gay is very intimidating and distracting for the player when the away ' supporters ' chant their abuse. It happens that way in footy but it seems less so with other sports.

Justin Fashanu went through hell when he came out in 1990. It really was very, very unpleasant I saw him twice at that time at Norwich and Palace and it's the only time that I've been ashamed of Palace fans. It got so bad that in the end he killed himself. Attitudes have massively changed since then, we are so much more tolerant today of the gay community. So that young Blackpool player Jake Daniels coming out as openly gay is massive. It will encourage other players who have had to live a lie and not be true to themselves to come out as well. They will still get stick at some grounds but there is so much more support out there now than when poor old Justin Fashanu took that enormous step.

Don’t usually post on this topic but feel it’s the most appropriate place to put it - well we blame anything and everything these days on covid/Brexit/Boris/cost of living etc. Last night some scumbag stole my son’s car off the drive - it’s a Fiat Abarth. He bought it last year and always wanted the model having had several Fiat 500’s over the years. I’m upset for him - it’s a car he loved and unless it’s a simple joy rider it’s probably on its way to goodness knows where - stolen to order! It’s a waiting game now I’m afraid

That's awful Jan. When somebody works, saves up and buys something which is dear to them it's sinful that somebody else takes a fancy to it and decides they will just help themselves.
My mother was burgled many years ago. They took all of her jewellery, money and valuable possessions whilst she was sat in the lounge watching the television. Thankfully although she then heard them and challenged them they did not harm her but it was too late and they escaped. They never did catch the thieves but it still leaves a scar.
Unfortunately even if they do catch the perpetrators they will have some sob story and will escape with a slap on the wrist, and no doubt go out and do it again.
It's not the best of feelings but I hope he gets his car back undamaged and I'd rather not say what I would like to happen to the thieving scum who took it.

Update on stolen car - he posted on village Facebook page and had a response from someone local who said he has Matthew’s car on CCTV being used to steal a neighbour’s van - can you believe it - hopefully the car has been used for theft and not stolen to order. Watch this space

Hopefully the footage is clear and been passed onto the police Jan and culprits get a knock on the door very soon.

If it was accepted as normal, then no we would not need to know at all. However it's becaus it is so rare for a footballer to declare he is gay that makes it news worthy.

BBC news has just reported that a think tank has advised that the poorest families are worst hit with the current inflation crisis. Surely it didn't require a think tank to come to that conclusion.

So the Met have concluded their Partygate investigation. They have decided a total of 8 gatherings across Whitehall broke Covid laws. Not good but hardly the dozens in Downing Street alone being claimed by Boris Bashers both inside and outside parliament.

And Boris has been fined just once, for attending one event deemed illegal, the event on his birthday when staff gave him a cake. Again rather less than the hysterical claims of his attackers.

In fact depending on how the Durham investigation goes it could be exactly the same number as St.Hindsight gets.

Not right but not Armageddon.

So may we now move on to worrying about Putin, nuclear bombs and the cost of living crisis?
