You'll be telling us next that Thomson, sorry TUI, are sofistikated!towny44 wrote:I thought I had suddenly come across a blog version of wish you were here with Judith Chalmers, but its just you two chatting about your holiday plans.
Incidentally Merv Thomson, or should we now say TUI cruises, are now closely linked with Celebrity since RCCL have a stake in TUI cruises.

However, next year it's QM2 for us, which means flying back, because we specifically want to do the transatlantic into New York and stay for a while, and 2017 Caribbean with P&O, a destination we've never done. After that we fancy the Panama Canal, which could either be the first leg of a P&O worldie or a Princess Fort Lauderdale to LA, either way more flying.
From experience, I would fly out and sail back - no jet lag.

Merv, your illustrious partner now seems to be disputing your choice, so I will also add my comments and ask why not sail both ways?Silver_Shiney wrote:Mervyn and Trish wrote:

1. We want to do the sail in to New York. Everyone says it's an experience.
2. We plan to visit friends while there and the next Eastbound trip after our arrival would be imposing on their hospitality for rather a long time.
So sail out, stay a week, then fly back and stay in bed till the jetlag passes is the plan!

Certainly the sail in is breathtaking. You have to get up at stupid o'clock and if it's drizzling it's a bit miserable on the top deck, where you'll get the best view, but passing under the Verazzona (sic?) bridge and watching the sun rise over the Manhattan skyline is amazing. John's right, though, sailing both ways would be ideal. Would a few nights in a hotel be feasible? We're staying in the Best Western in Brooklyn, which is quite reasonably priced.

The gap's too big to be economic. Plus the next cruise back is not direct so is a lot more expensive. The overall result would be around 5 weeks away from home and an empty piggy bank

Seems to be an echo in here, but not to worry its wrong as usual since I am definitely the only one in the lead.
