Gentlemen, gentlemen, don't you think it's a bit unsporting to talk of the Ferretmeister like that when he's not here?

You can have my nurse if you wish, six foot five, built like a brick ......., plays rugby for Moray, but she is as gentle as a lamb!

for anyone north of Birmingham, it will be a godsend and bring a lot of revenue and extra jobs to the area, it also means that many of us wont have to listen to the gobshite's who think Soton is the only place in the world you can get a ship from and I wont have to travel to the a*se end of the country to get a cruise.
Hopefully it will get the go ahead, soon

I actually like the sailaway down Southampton Water, and the Solent, but the 350mile journey to get there is a bit of a b*gg*r though!

Re: Last One to Post Wins
if they build the new terminal in Hull, it will be 15 minutes by cab, no parking fees, no pre cruise hotel, no worrying about traffic and the 6 1/2 drive to Sotn, on a good day
the downside will be choosing where to go on my cruise......s

If only Batty. Sadly they still expect me to pay them. But seriously I would consider 'Ull as a departure port. However I have just read an interesting book given to passengers on QE2's maiden world cruise and it explains why Cunard moved their base from Liverpool to Southampton and a major factor was the tides. They can spend as much as they like up your way and not change that.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
there is a decent tidal variation from about 5 to 7.5 meters , depending on where you are along the estuary, but the proposed site would be the higher end of that range
the biggest issue is silt

I couldn't care less where the departure dock is - if the itinerary and the price is right, I'll drive there.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
But it helps if the port is within an hour or so and a reasonably easy drive....?
