I'd rather spend my time enjoying the cruise than writing a book about it.

Don't know where that came from but it sounds something of an exaggeration - from now to the end of June is 104 days which means that there would be an average of nine ships a day, every day. I am not aware of many ports that can handle that number of ships daily.Portsmouth wrote: 18 Mar 2025, 17:22Press release out yesterday says 900 cruise ships scheduled to visit Santorini between now and June have been canceled due to this latest earthquake

There are lots of small ships and yachts that sail the Greek islands, which may well be included in that listdavid63 wrote: 19 Mar 2025, 11:37Don't know where that came from but it sounds something of an exaggeration - from now to the end of June is 104 days which means that there would be an average of nine ships a day, every day. Taking the Caribbean out and presumably sailing ex UK then it does not leave much choice - Mediterranean, Canaries, Fjords, Baltic or round Britain. A lot will depend on what time of year you want to go and for how long.Onelife wrote: 19 Mar 2025, 12:31I'm looking for inspiration 2026…leaving out the Caribbean which itinerary would you put at the top of your list?

David , it came from FTN news.co and they covered themselves by saying it was " according to Sozcu " which is a popular Turkish daily newspaperdavid63 wrote: 19 Mar 2025, 11:37Don't know where that came from but it sounds something of an exaggeration - from now to the end of June is 104 days which means that there would be an average of nine ships a day, every day. Leaving aside the itinerary, you might like to consider Viking Cruise Lines ( Ocean ) who have smaller cruise ships...( about 48,000 tons ) and are for over !8s. The state-of-the-art small ships enjoy direct access into ports which big cruise ships cannot reach. Guests can relax and enjoy the comforts and serenity of a refined atmosphere, understated yet elegant Scandinavian design and airy public spaces....Onelife wrote: 19 Mar 2025, 12:31I'm looking for inspiration 2026…leaving out the Caribbean which itinerary would you put at the top of your list?
Also Fred Olsen ( British cruise line ) depart from Liverpool & Newcastle sometimes if you are looking for a UK departure port.
They also do fly cruises such as 10 nights Bays, Mountains & Islands of Croatia visiting Lake Bled, Lokrum Island and Krka Waterfalls and this type of itinerary would be high on my list especially if it were in summer.
Also high on my list for summer would be a cruise around Scotland including the Hebrides, Orkney islands & Faroe islands as these are places I haven't had the pleasure of visiting.

Re: Where would you love to cruise to in 2025?
We just stayed round the port area so no train or hoho bus.
We liked Katakolon with its bars/restaurants and shops nestled round the harbour. There are also a couple of small supermarkets where you can restock on supplies.
Quite a long walk from the ship to the harbour area (no shuttle), and in 30+ deg temperatures it might be a challenge for some. We went out just the once and that was enough.

I did a Black Sea cruise a few years ago on Aurora - 17 days sailing through Med then to Istanbul which was amazing and into the Black Sea visiting Yalta and Odessa. One of my favourite cruises - the history of the region is fascinating.oldbluefox wrote: 13 Jan 2025, 18:42They always used to do a cruise to the Black Sea calling in at Odessa and Istanbul. Clearly Odessa is off limits but I wonder why they dropped the Black Sea. Istanbul sounds fascinating.

We did the trolley train in Katakolon quite a few years ago. Refreshing breeze and some lovely scenery. Our only regret is that we didn’t get off at the vineyard. It would have been great to have sampled the wine. Nice bars for a cold beer around the harbour an the duty free shop in the port was pretty good too!

Wouldn’t bother with the so called duty free shop. We had a quick look and prices were no cheaper than at home.
