Re: Sue and Garry Aurora Christmas and New Year cruise
Friday 2 nd January 2026- Final day of Cruise
Packing commenced after breakfast and It didn’t take as long as usual. The clothes we had brought were thick and bulky to cope with the weather but as they were two shorter cruises than normal we didn’t need as many outfits.
The shop was having a New Year sale and we had on board credit left to spend which I managed to do. An evening bag, a shopping bag and some jewellery sorted that out.
We ate lunch in the main dining room and said our goodbyes to the lovely waitress who had served us during both cruises. We were just passing the White cliffs of Dover.
She was so excited to be going to South America and seeing the Glaciers and I showed her some photos of them that I had taken last time we were there.
After lunch Garry returned to the cabin and I sat with our officer friend chatting for a while and making arrangements for when we next meet up on Aurora in April.
I spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing as all the hard work had been done.
Our final Dinner in the main dining room was emotional, saying our goodbyes to our lovely waiters Agnelo and Roger, also Christopher who had catered for our dietary requirements. Another special meal with our friend followed by the Parade of the Chefs and waiters. They got a great ovation from the passengers as they danced around the dining room. It was great to see them so happy for a few minutes laughing and joking before finishing off this service and getting ready for the next one.
We went to Carmens to see the group Showmaddy a tribute to Showwaddywaddy. We couldn’t even get through the doors. It was standing room only so we gave up.
Garry checked the weather forecast for our long journey tomorrow and it wasn’t great!
Saturday 3 January -
It turned out the weather wasn’t as bad as forecast. Our car needed defrosting at the hotel but the other than a short hold upon the motorway due to an accident it was a relatively straightforward 4 hour journey with comfort breaks.
Another great cruise. Aurora Christmas and New Year on board met all our expectations. The ship was decorated beautifully and all the officers and crew joined in the celebrations.
The chefs and food & beverage team provided excellent and spectacular meals day after day. The planning involved had been going on for weeks.
The only downside for me was the bitter cold outside and because we were overnight in every port it meant the gangway was open day and night letting cold air onto the ship.
Our Next cruise is at the end of April on Aurora to the Mediterranean.

Always enjoy reading of your exploits Sue, and congratulations on not one but two Most Cruised awards, a good chance that may come your way again in the future.
It all sounded very different from our time on Aurora in June - and not just the weather, and a chefs parade too, haven't had one of those for a good while now.
Look forward to hearing about April when it comes.

Thank you for another great report Sue. I always enjoy reading your reports when you're on Aurora as it's a ship I love too. I look forward to hearing about your next cruise in April. I'm not sure if I'll get back on Aurora but I'll certainly look forward to yours. It's always so interesting hearing about a ship I know so I can visualise exactly where you're talking about.
