They are having to offer 'perks' such as 'free drinks packages' to counter low levels of bookings. No doubt caused in part by our smoking friends now choosing vacations they find more suitable.

Apparently the Royal Iris is packed out with smokers going up and down the Mersey.
Since we drink very little the offer of 'free' drinks would not appeal and would have no influence on whether we booked with one cruise line or another. However I can understand for some that a drinks package, whether included in the price or as an optional package, may be attractive.

Smurfy
yes it is an incentive to book early but the later you wait the more it costs, irrespective of the cruise price going up or down

I think a drinks package for those who enjoy a drink or two, and appreciate wine etc with their dinner is an attractive proposition. To some extent the wine packages onboard are already on offer so I don't see that it is a big step towards offering a drinks package.
The only worry I have is having that lot from Thomson coming over to P&O and spoiling the ambiance!!!

What would happen if you wanted to buy a round of drinks if you were sat with say, your table companions? I suppose you would get your one drink included but not all the others - wouldn't that make it rather complicated? And in order for your other half to get his/her included drink their card would have to be used as well - I suppose.

It doesn't really matter Carole
My experience of AI is that you get your own drinks included and if you want to 'buy a round', you just exclude yourself from it and pay seperately.
I've done this on land holidays with no problems.
The staff seemed to pick up very quickly who was AI and who wasn't

It wouldn't be the same without the 'anticipated ambiance', DK.
It seemed a meaningless phrase to me anyway but we couldn't do without it!!
