Almost 40 years ago when I was trying to lose some weight, a Dutch customer said to me; "Dont lose de love handles! The ladies like de love handles!" We were sitting in a Chinese restauarant with a tempting menu in Haifa, and he was piling his plate up. I love oriental food, and that chicken curry yesterday was very moreish. QED over weight today.

Frank, Why feel guilty because you have enjoyed something a little bit naughty.
It is important to make every minute of every day special. You can go back to ' being good' as soon as you can, all you are doing is extending your target date.
I have had a toasted teacake with lashings of butter, definitely not good for me but it was so nice I have just had another one.

Ah Andrea; further sabotage today. I am supoosed to be at Rotary Club dinner tonight, so I was just having a small sandwich for lunch. However Sue had made herself a home made pizza with ham, tomato and cheese. Sorry to say that when she invited me to try a piece, it was very delicious and I had another larger piece and the sandwich.

DK, You are dead right. The thing is you reach a certain age and it doesn't seem so important. At the best you can use the excuse you have forgotten you have already eaten.
It must almost be time for you to be jetting off, have a brill time and I am sure you will agree, it is a complete waste of money just looking at the meals offered.

Frank, are you weighing yourself daily ?? big mistake, I weighed in Monday morning and shan't weigh myself again until next Monday morning, I expect my biggest calorie intake to be over the weekend but hopefully cutting down Monday to Friday will have done some good, as it is only week one for me I will see what this week brings and if I need to cut down more then I will, don't beat yourself up some weeks will be better than othersFrank Manning wrote:Shame on me! Hi Jo,
I have to agree with you where weighing yourself regularly is concerned...best leave it to the official weigh-in on Sunday as your weight can fluctuate dramatically from day to day....best not look then you won't be disappointed if you're on the weigh up.

Morning pinchers,
So how are my pinch-an-inchers doing? Well, l hope...which is just as well as its only three days till Sundays weigh-in. What you can be sure about is that the coveted celery stick won't be going to my wife this week as l caught her tucking into a packet of Walkers crisps which on balance doesn't sound too bad until l found a discarded chocolate bar wrapper tucked down the side of the sofa...yes pinchers my wife has sinned....have you?
I will admit to raiding the biscuit barrel a couple of times this week but other than that l'm still on course to lose a couple of lbs by Sunday.
Stay strong pinchers.

Hello Keith - so far OK but Saturday evening is always my 'bad' evening. I wish I could weigh in on a Saturday morning before I weaken in the evening but like Jo said you have to hope that if you have been strong most of the week then you might still see a loss. Hopefully you and your wife will still be ok.
Just to say, even if I have the biggest loss this week, please don't send a celery stick - I am sick of the sight of it!!

So does anyone have any tips to keep us on the 'straight and narrow' and please no ....eat all you like but don't swallow it
Probably pretty obvious but if you eat lots of bread ( I don't maybe 2 slices a week ) try cutting down or better still if you feel full leave it, contrary to what our mothers told us we don't 'have' to clear our plates !!!
Cut out the potatoes, we really don't need them and an extra portion of veg will be equally as filling, make potatoes a treat for Sunday dinner.
Do you take sugar in tea/coffee .. I did until about 10 years ago when ( on yet another diet ) decided to cut it out completely, I went from drinking about a dozen cups of coffee a day to about two and thought it would never taste the same again but it's surprising how quickly you get used to it, the same with milk I now only drink black coffee ( unless I have latte etc as a treat which believe it or not I have to have sugar in it )
Alcohol ....my biggest downfall I'm afraid especially Red wine

DQ, You sound very positive about how changing your habits can help you. The red wine might be a problem but it is reported as being very good for your heart.

Andrea, I am positive but actually knowing it and putting it into practise is the hard part, I love all the things I shouldn't eat
Like you I'm not a big eater and I find it difficult to eat 3 times a day, when I was working I only ever ate an evening meal and even now I find it a habit hard to get out of, when I eat regularly I lose weight when I eat one meal a day I don't, apparently all to do with your body going into 'starvation mode' so I've been told.
In an ideal world I should weigh about 9 stone ...... if only
but hey I have set myself a goal and will hopefully reach it, I'm aiming for a stone within 6 months so that should be achievable.

Setting a goal is probably the best advice for anyone.
I think habits we get into over the years are very hard to break. My eating habits definitely come into the starvation mode but my weight doesn't reflect this.

I am going to post a review of our 24 hours on NCL's new cruise ship Norwegian Getaway some time in the next two days. However on the subject of waistlines etc., I will say here, that while, in the main (no cover charge) restaurants the menus were far more extensive and interesting looking than P&O (as last experienced), the food itself was not imho as good quality or as well cooked as P&O. Sue and the two friends who accompanied us, thought likewise. The restaurants had good ambience, but when it arrived it was not as good. So I would put on weight under that regime searching for that special bit of taste; on P&O generally I dont over eat and yet am well satisfied. - just a thought.
