It seems that Christmas does not improve the quality of the posting on this thread, until now of course.

Well I survived Christmas, possibly because I am not a celebrity!
Nice and sunny here today and not too cold either, we will also now be doing some catching up on TV viewing, isn't Sky+ wonderful.

Or even just one hard drive recorder which can record two programmes at a time, and a smart TV that can play the various catch up services. Who needs to pay for Sky? Unless you're a big sport or movie fan, a waste of money.

But if you can afford the money then you do get far more choice and we now watch more Sky programmes than we do freeview. In fact watching paint dry can be more interesting than some BBC programmes.Mervyn and Trish wrote:Or even just one hard drive recorder which can record two programmes at a time, and a smart TV that can play the various catch up services. Even ignoring your bias against the BBC Towny, there is more on Freeview and Freesat than we can ever hope to watch. We still have around 60 hours of series across several channels we recorded while we were away this year which we have yet to watch

Merv clearly we have diferent tastes in TV, for us its mainly light hearted easy watching dramas, and we do enjoy the American ones a little more than the UK ones, its quite interesting how they manage to power the story on at a much higher pace than most UK ones, they do help me stay awake better than the Beeb ones.

Not me, I've got Virgin TiVo and except the Sky film packages, every channel going. What I would really like Virgin/Sky to do is allow viewers to but the individual channels that they want instead of bundling many channels that I never look at.towny44 wrote:Digital TV Philistines, the lot of you.

We may be philistines but we're saving money for more cruising and in the majority!towny44 wrote:Digital TV Philistines, the lot of you.
On latest figures the BBC accounts for 30% of all viewing in the UK. BBC1 alone has almost twice the audience share of ITV, twenty five times the audience share of Sky1 and three times that of all Sky TVs channels added together.
80% of the populàtion tune into BBC1 weekly, compared to14% for Sky1.

That could account for the poor state the country is in now!Mervyn and Trish wrote:We may be philistines but we're saving money for more cruising and in the majority!towny44 wrote:Digital TV Philistines, the lot of you.

Seriouslly though do the Beeb send you regular e-mails with all this spurious data, you presumably do know the old adage about "lies, damn lies and Statistics".
But back to my comment about how slow paced BBC programmes can be compared with US ones, have you watched Witness for the Prosecution yet, episode 1 could have been condensed to 10 minutes and still have been more informative, an absolute waste of time. Almost as bad were the Xmas specials of Last Tango in Halifax and Outnumbered, which fell far short of their normal excellent quality.

Data from Barb Towny - independent. You can check it for yourself.towny44 wrote:That could account for the poor state the country is in now!Mervyn and Trish wrote:We may be philistines but we're saving money for more cruising and in the majority!towny44 wrote:Digital TV Philistines, the lot of you.

And the above - all excellent programmes and better than any US rubbish. Of course the US stuff is fast paced. Written people with attention span of a goldfish. And to cram it between the ads.

Your easily pleased Merv, and clearly so biased against anything not British, which is obviously why you don't appreciate the superior standards of Celebrity cruises.

Not remotely biased Towny. Just don't see the point in spending valuable cruising money on satelite TV when there is more than enough, British and American, to keep me occupied on free to view TV.
And as for Calamity. Well each to his own. I'm happy with three other lines I've used so see no point in wasting money on a line where we had an appalling experience.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
I find there is more than enough rubbish on regular TV and Freeview for me to choose and record each day without spending out on Sky as well.
Just saying.

I find it wonderful that we have so much choice, but Lady T keeps persuading me to watch quite a bit of the BBC offerings, which does enable me to appreciate what SKY offers even more.

Similar weather here Stephen, just popped to our local Sainsburys for a few essentials and almost had the store to myself.
