Hi all. Heard talk of cake and popped in to win for a bit. And Batty having to slum it too. Life's a bitch sometimes.

Afternoon? Almost evening surely? Or at least past the yardarm I hope. If I can't get cake a G&T will suffice.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
I had a G&T once. Tasted like soap. My mate wasn't impressed when I grabbed his pint and downed it to take the taste away.
I've got a nice bottle of shiraz to finish off tonight.

In this heat? Not a fan of brown ale, actually, but did have to buy some Bombardier the other day to slake the thirst. It didn't last long...... (hic)

You'd like The Apple, down on Welsh Back (an old barge) and The Cider Press on Gloucester Road in the Bishopston area, both in Bristol. The latter does a mean toffee apple cider...

You must be thinking of the infamous Watney's Red Barrel, of which Fred Wedlock used to say "Watney's going down tastes like scrumpy coming up". Never having experienced either, I will defer to his judgement on this matter.

Red Barrel was my ale of choice in 74-76. Then I went to Oman for 9 months and positively lusted after a pint of Red Barrel. When I got back, I went to the NAAFI bar and ordered a pint. It was awful. I assumed it was a bad barrel. A couple of weeks later, I went back and had another one. Just as bad. Obviously my tastes had changed. Is it still available?

Good morning all. Two days to go. Watney's Red Barrel as Alan used to know it, is well & truly defunct - but I believe there is a strong (by UK standards) Belgian beer which now uses the name.

Good morning to you, sir, on this lovely cool morning. 'tis very overcast here - maybe we'll get some wet bits.... our flower beds are cracking open, the water butts are dry, so any rain will be more than welcome.
Incidentally, you're not winning.....

Wrong again - but don't panic, you'll get your chance (Batty, Tink, et al permitting) after Wednesday (at least for the 2 weeks I'm away)

Hello you old fogeys, your leader has returned. I had to train a team of Siberian huskies for next year's big race but I'm back now.
