It's years since we did a Canaries cruise. I think we'll be due in the next year or two. Great to escape the autumn/winter.

D deck?

Nothing going on D, had to plump for C so not all bad with the bigger balcony. Mid-ships as well, just, which surprised me this near to sailing. Probably a duff’n knowing my luck :D .

Compo forms at the ready.

I didn't know this until I read it recently.

Ocean Terminal at Southampton, berths 46/47, where Iona and Arvia sail from, along with other ships, stands on one side of Ocean Dock.

It was formerly known as White Star Dock and was specially built to accommodate their Olympic class ships.

And opposite berths 46/47 on the other side of the Dock are berths 44/45, where Olympic and subsequently Titanic sailed from.

The actual bollards to which Titanic was secured are still there and painted orange to highlight them. These days that side is used for cargo ships.

I've sailed on two Maiden Voyages from Ocean Terminal. Luckily they went better than Titanic's!

That is surprising you did not know the history of Ocean dock. But it's nice to mention it to a fellow cruiser who also is oblivious to the fact that the biggest ship of its time sailed from here to take most of the passengers and crew to the bottom of the ocean.
Don't worry, be happy

Of course her near identical older sister Olympic sailed successfully from 1911 to 1935, including a period as a troop ship. It was economics that ended her career, rather than an iceberg.

Finally at the hotel before our cruise tomorrow. The worst journey I have ever known. Horrendous.

What should have taken just under two and a half hours took four. Bl**dy M25
