Like many he is happy to stand on the sidelines and snipe without contributing anything constructive to the debate. He is not alone in this respect.

Re: Current Affairs
Breaking news..............
"Sky News presenter Kay Burley is to stay off-air for six months after admitting breaking Covid rules during a night out for her 60th birthday.
Political editor Beth Rigby and north of England correspondent Inzamam Rashid, who were among those with her, will be absent for three months".
It's not clear whether they will be paid or not.

Just about to post the same. Good. Might focus the minds of other media types who think they're above the law, and in the case of those hypocrites do so while attacking Dominic Cummings. They're as bad as one another.

It's amused me that the Supreme Court that Trump deliberately loaded in his favour has thrown out his case.

Re: Current Affairs
I notice from this evenings news that Merkel seems to have cancelled xmas, how is she keeping her economy going if they have such strict covid rules, or is it that the Germans are better at obeying the rules.

I would say the latter. If there is a rule they tend to obey it. The police don't tend to discuss matters.

She should be asked "is she going to resign?" Many times

I agree Happydays. .....l can be forgiving of most people's personality traits but give little slack to those who mock and belittle.

And an aside to the effect 'In other words no you're not' to follow her reply.
Reports say she has been taken off air which I presume means she will be working backstage. If so it's a bit of a fudge. When others have made a faux pas they haven't been seen or heard of since.

She has actually gone on holiday to Africa and will be taking a safari during her vacation. She may decide to have a longer break in the circumstances.oldbluefox wrote: 14 Dec 2020, 12:26And an aside to the effect 'In other words no you're not' to follow her reply.

And all we are getting is Sadiq Khan whinging that it will affect the hospitality and retail sectors - what does he think has been happening in other parts of the country that have been in tier three? What is the saying "We are all in it together" (except please do not inconvenience me!!)Stephen wrote: 14 Dec 2020, 14:26I wonder why

Re: Current Affairs
From what I have seen of the antics in London (protest marches, demonstrations, shopping crowds, street parties, closing time revelry and raves etc) they have brought it upon themselves.

I'm disgusted that the media, including dear old Auntie, are continuing to give publicity to anti vaxxers. The latest today. "I did all the government told me to. I was very careful. I was furloughed from work. I still got Covid. So they lied to me and all the figures are fake so I'm not having the vaccine."

Re: Current Affairs
I despair - the latest from a London MP - "can the vaccine be rolled out quicker?" Do they not realise that it cannot be rolled out any quicker than we can get it, which is dependant upon the manufacturers making it.
Oh silly me - it is now all about London - the rest of the country, and the vulnerable, don't matter any more!

Re: Current Affairs
What I find crazy is that the Government are insisting schools stay open when many of them are closing due to Covid outbreaks….at this time of the year most schools are winding down for Christmas…. just passing time making Christmas paper chains…. well, that’s what we did when we were kids.
These tier systems have been a complete shambles, as have the track and trace.

Re: Current Affairs
My sister works in a secondary school and they have taken every measure possible to make the school as safe as it could be. However once the children leave school all safety measures are thrown out of the window as far as they are concerned - masks, social distancing - forget it and seeing children in town out of school I see what she means. If you close the schools it just means some children will spend all day roaming the shops and streets and potentially passing the virus around. It appears the virus is more prevalent amongst the 11-19 year olds and until they take the dangers more seriously nothing the government come up with is going to work.
No tier systems or track and trace are going to work unless we all follow the guidelines and stop passing the thing on.

Re: Current Affairs
But many working parents will need to take holiday or unpaid leave to look after their children giving them an extra headache to sort out just when they least need it; and since schools are breaking up on Thursday or Friday anyway what good is finishing 2 or 3 days early going to accomplish?Onelife wrote: 15 Dec 2020, 08:39What I find crazy is that the Government are insisting schools stay open when many of them are closing due to Covid outbreaks….at this time of the year most schools are winding down for Christmas…. just passing time making Christmas paper chains…. well, that’s what we did when we were kids.

With over 500 thousand school children in self-isolation, I think the necessity to close schools speaks for itself.towny44 wrote: 15 Dec 2020, 09:11But many working parents will need to take holiday or unpaid leave to look after their children giving them an extra headache to sort out just when they least need it; and since schools are breaking up on Thursday or Friday anyway what good is finishing 2 or 3 days early going to accomplish?Onelife wrote: 15 Dec 2020, 08:39What I find crazy is that the Government are insisting schools stay open when many of them are closing due to Covid outbreaks….at this time of the year most schools are winding down for Christmas…. just passing time making Christmas paper chains…. well, that’s what we did when we were kids.

Whilst I appreciate the inconvenience this will/could cause parents…Greenwich Council are acting responsibly imo which is more than can be said for this Government.

I know you won’t mind if I disagree with you Foxy but from what I have witnessed most school children are of a mindset/better educated in the prevention of passing on this virus than those who should know betteroldbluefox wrote: 15 Dec 2020, 09:09My sister works in a secondary school and they have taken every measure possible to make the school as safe as it could be.
