Creating a New Topic

I have just joined the forum but having difficulty creating a new topic.
If I click on create a new topic, I get the drop down options but am unable to select any of them.
Am I doing something wrong?
I would be grateful for any help.

As a precaution against spammers there are only a few fora that you can make your first post in but you can reply in all the other fora.

I know I’m a bit thick but what do you mean?…. the way I read what you have said is that grandpapete can’t create his own topic but he can reply to any other topic?...am I missing something?

I wouldn’t expect you to post anything which could compromise the forum, but I’m obviously missing the reason why a new member isn’t allowed to create a new topic?

Because it is a favourite trick of automated spammers - it is more difficult to have to find an existing topic to post in.

Sorry David, I’m not trying to be awkward here, but I still don’t understand where you are going with this…. Let’s say I created a new topic under the heading “Grandpapete” with him then posting his question/topic under my thread would he then be allowed top create a new topic using his own name/handle?
