Azura’s last spectacular cruise through the heart of Venice
The last cruise of Azura to ever sail through the San Marco and Giudecca Canals will be A424 departing 14th September 2014.
See my post ‘The Venice Lagoon Latest News’ to find out why.

David, it is the Cruise Line Association themselves who have agreed to stop ships of 96,000 tonnes sailing through these canals.david63 wrote:Never say never - you just do not know what may happen in the future
Once an alternate route has been agreed then that will be it. The Venetian residents will not allow this to be changed ever!! Having lived there, this I can assure you.
The cruise lines will then negotiate how many ships between 40,000 and 96,000 tonnes will be allowed through. This will become a seasonal variable, but not for those over 96,000 tonnes.

In that case I am the lucky one as I am on this cruise! Although not my first sail into Venice, I must admit to feeling sorry that I may never experience it again.ITWA Travel Writer wrote:The last cruise of Azura to ever sail through the San Marco and Giudecca Canals will be A424 departing 14th September 2014.

Maureen you will still be able to experience the sail into and or out of Venice through the Giudecca and San Marco Canals. Just select a ship under 40,000 tonnes or wait to see what arrangement is made for the mid tonnage ships each year, then select that cruise line and ship.
To me and I know to a lot of cruisers this is a must to experience and once done you want to do it again and again.

We are lucky too Maureen as we are also on this cruise. Didn't know when we booked a year ago that there was any problems with sailing into Venice but glad that we will experience it one more time. We do prefer the bigger ships so we will probably not get to do it again.

Azura's probably the worst ship to see Venice unless you have a balcony. Not enough outside space.

Nor a tiered stern, nor a viewing platform up top at the front end. That space is for the Retreat only.

Agree. TG we did it on Arcadia.
To truly appreciate Venice do a long weekend land based holiday; we've done it twice, as well as visiting on a cruise........ best of both.
