Just done an abandoned vehicle report to our local authority, watch this space
our council are brilliant - both times we've had to report abandoned cars they've been round to look and sorted it within a day or so (first one the same day and the car went next day (to outside no.35)
this time was across a weekend, but was visited on Tuesday and gorn ( to outside no35 ) by Weds afternoon

One would have thought that if she is off for a year on maternity leave someone else would have to be doing her work. Do they travel by bus? Or is it British Gas policy to simply suspend service contracts if your local engineer gets pregnant? Either way as a policy it doesn't sound very cost effective.
No it isn't cost effective, but why should BG worry - they can just pass the cost on to their customers.
precisely, and if we had a contract with BG, the proverbial would have hit the fan by now!
we do have a central heating contract with BG and when the engineer was here a few weeks ago he was saying how quiet it was and that there was less work/overtime about - don't know if it is just our area or national.
If that is the case then there is a possible argument that it is more cost effective to leave the van with the engineer than have to return it to the depot.
Whilst on the subject of female BG engineers - has anyone else had any experience of them? The only time that one called here was for an emergency call out and she did not have a clue as to what the problem was so she just ordered a part for someone else to come and fix the next day - well it was more that the guy that came the next day came to order the correct part for installation the day after.

The report says the vehicle will be inspected within the next 2 working days so may hear something by Wednesday next week, fingers crossed
Despite it causing quite a lot of inconvenience traffic-wise, it can't really be classed as causing an obstruction as such, and my worry is that the owners (when contacted) will simply deny that it's abandoned and claim it's legally parked. In reality, the owners are probably simply saving on storage fees for the heap of junk.

I wish we'd know that bit a year or so back when an obnoxious neighbour of my mum's kept leaving his 4x4 and/or his tatty caravan outside the neighbours' houses!

Update... just seen another tatty white van pull up outside the house. Went out and found a fella tinkering with the campervan. Turns out that he reckons that the "engine has died" and he's trying to strip out what he wants from the van before arranging for it to be towed and scrapped. His excuse for it being there since Feb is that he's a field engineer who is hardly at home.
So, given that the tax runs out on 30th June, it would appear that he'll have to shift it by then!!! Hurrah!

I left British Gas as a customer years ago. One of the several final straws was a quote to fit a new central heating boiler. In order to try to compete on price with an independent local fitter and plumber they specified a lower rated boiler. When I challenged this and asked for a quote for the same rating as the old one, which we knew was adequate for the house and was as specified by the independent, they slagged off the local man. Guess who got the job! (And all our plumbing and gas servicing work since).
So, given that the tax runs out on 30th June, it would appear that he'll have to shift it by then!!! Hurrah!

Legally there is no "grace" period but it is unlikely that you would be prosecuted/fixed penalty for that alone - however if the vehicle is not taxed and another offence is committed then you can be prosecuted for both.

You certainly have a two-week grace period on buying a new car - I've not got my tax disc yet but I was assured, and have a document issued by DVLA, stating I may legally drive for up to 14 days without a tax disc following first registration.
Havevn't I read that they intend to stop issuing tax discs soon? Police and traffic wardens now have access to the DVLC database through their mobiles, so no need for discs anymore.

Sorry to put a dampener on things Wina but I have just seen on the news that two hundred pikies have just been evicted from a field and are now heading towards you. Someone must of tipped them off there was a spare bit of ground going spare
