I thought it was because someone had pulled out the plug to the power supply to the Septic Isle

She PMd me a year or so back asking if she could keep in touch, but never did. I think the closure of her little shop hit her hard.

Glad the traveller has ruffled a few others feathers as well! Think I should have stayed in bed today - just had an Irish guy drive up the drive and gabble a load of codswallop about a diesel generator and my husband - the two will never meet! Reported to the police as he scarpered when I questioned him and now the local police force keep ringing me to tell me they are still looking for him in the vicinity. Methinks there is more to this than meets the eye - you normally have to wait 2 days for a reaction!

You only get worse lol - i'll have to be a 'loonie' as I do agree there are some terrible snobs on p and o - we love winding them up and it always used to guarantee you a 2 table when you had got rid of them.Dark Knight wrote:Hola Loonies and cruise snobs

I was a bit harsh on Barney to be fair but we have had some truly awful snobs on dinner tables, I am sure it is what put Lady Dark's parents of cruising

As far as snobs on P&O go, I can honestly say that the only time we noticed any snobbery was on Arcadia in 2007, and then it was limited to a bunch of old widows who seemed to complain, loudly, about everything. Fortunately our cruises since then have been limited to the large family friendly ships, and we really have not noticed any snobbishness at all, so for those wanting an egalitarian cruise on P&O I suggest you choose Azura, Ventura or Britannia and avoid the old Canberra crowds that seem to frequent Oriana and Arcadia.

I haven't tried Britannia, but from what I have heard from those who have, she, and the other 2 you mention, would be my least favourite ships in the fleet. I have yet to experience the delights(?) of Arcadia, but will be remedying that in a few weeks time.

If you like Oriana Notso, and its one foot in the grave ambiance, then I feel certain you will love the pre-crematorium feel of Arcadia.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
Well I liked Britannia a lot - would have no problem sailing on her again which is just as well with a Christmas cruise already booked
I'm not a fan of Arcadia - not so keen on adult only ships but to be honest whichever ship I sail on and I've tried lots - Thomson/Celebrity/RCI/Costa/Princess - I think I'm pretty damn lucky to be doing just that
As for the snobs well I must have been pretty lucky - met some characters you wouldn't want to sit with again but most people are very friendly which helps if you sail on your own which I have a few times.
Anyway folks night night
- probably no one still up anyway so I'll keep the lead over night

Morning troopers - wonder what today will bring us all? Notso - you will probably find Arcadia quite claustrophobic at first - low ceilings and all dark décor. Everyone is always tucked up early in bed on there but I must say we use the ships for the itinerary not the ship and have sailed on Arcadia frequently - she is one of the most stable ships in the fleet when adverse weather.
The only dislike I have is the main dining room - much prefer Oriana or Oceana. Arcadia dining room is really noisy and not the cosy atmosphere you get on the other ships.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
I think you can find snobs on any ship you care to mention in any line and indeed in any walk of life at any time. In some cases, pure traditional snobbery, in some inverse snobbery, which is just as bad and maybe takes the form of "Good lord, no I wouldn't consider P&O/Celebrity/Cunard/Princess, I'm far too working class and proud of it for that".towny44 wrote:As far as snobs on P&O go, I can honestly say that the only time we noticed any snobbery was on Arcadia in 2007, and then it was limited to a bunch of old widows who seemed to complain, loudly, about everything. But in our experience they're the minority. Of course in any sample of 2,000 or so people there will be plenty who'll never be your bezzie mates, but even the smaller ships are big enough to avoid them.
The only real snobs I can clearly recall meeting on a cruise were a couple who lived in the Channel Islands, told us on day one how much their house was worth, and bemoaned the problem of having to fly to Southampton to get the ship. Funnily enough they never turned up for dinner again. Clearly we weren't good enough for them!
