I thought that was standard procedure. Can't imagine a helo being called out just to remove a time-expired passenger

Ours was definitely still alive and kicking when Air/Sea Rescue preformed their miracle with the helicopter. We were on first name terms with the ships doctor following an emergency of our own earlier in the cruise and he confirmed the patient was "doing OK" in hospital later.

Average age on our last one was 72 and not everyone who set off made it home! We even had an emergency helicopter evac by the Navy. Does that count as a coffin dodger cruise ?

As you know I have just been to Norway & Iceland on Arcadia, and we too had a passenger helicoptered off to hospital/ At the same time one of my work colleagues was doing the 'outer circle' version of the same trip, going to Spitzbergen, Iceland and Greenland on Fred Olsen's Boudicca. When I told him about the med-evac of our passenger he replied that " they didn't bother with a helicopter for our one - just put her in cold storage!"

Hope they put her in a separate fridge to the veg.

Sadly not, we were too busy enjoying the fleshpots of Reykjavik that day !

Perhaps they could carry an old spare lifeboat - and use it for Viking funerals at sea............

We did meet a couple on one cruise who had previously sold up their lives and spent 17 years travelling the globe on a yacht. The husband had a history of heart trouble so Mrs C asked the wife what she would do if he breathed his last in mid-ocean. She replied "oh, I would just chuck him over the side and carry on"!

That's what I'd want the crew to do if I took medical discharge from the human race mid-cruise. The body is only the shell I currently live in.
