Do tell us the make and model so we can avoid making the same mistake.

SONY BRAVIA KDL43W809CBU Smart 3D 43" LED TV

Didn't like the picture quality and it had a very annoying deep black bar at the top of the screen with the channel info etc every time you changed channels that stayed on for several seconds, and according to Sony is fixed and cannot be turned off. Plus the sound was cr*p as I expected but was prepared to invest in a sound bar at a later date.

You wouldn't believe the hoops you have to go through to get the thing up and running. It took an age. The instruction manual was about as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

Although I purchased online I did view it in Currys. The problem is all their TV's are showing pre-recorded Blu-ray stuff not live TV, so it all looks brilliant.

I know what you mean about going through hoops when buying a new item. These days everything seems to have programs that's not needed (by me anyway!) I got a new tumble dryer on Friday and it's all singing and dancing, just trying to decide on which are the best program(s) for my usage, I'LL get there eventually. I had the old one for 20yr bet the new one doesn't last as long!

We have had our one and only tumble dryer for almost 30 years, and I expect it to last another 30, of course that's mainly as we no longer use it. Washing dries outside when the weather is suitable, or on the airer around the radiator in the utility room when its not.

Very true John boy - seems to be a popular time of year to "abandon" us - how did your trip go?

Never fear Towny. They do have electricity and wifi here now. And your favourite ship in harbour too.

and I'll be keeping tabs on things next week from the Big Apple. Not sure if I'll be using my onboard wifi allowance to visit the forum the following week though.

If you mention my name to the Captain I'm sure he will let you have a quick look round to see what you're missing when you sail on other lines.

That was in response to Cubie's "cheapskate", but I wasn't warned that several other posts had been made in between...
