P&Os fleet

Unread post by Kendhni »

We ran this a while back on the P&O board so thought I would give it a go here with a poll.

Given that P&O is to get a new superliner in 2015 which, if any, ship do you think will be replaced?

I hope that none of the ships have to go but my vote is for Oriana which is the oldest having been built in 1995. At 20 years old it may be time for something more modern.

The problem with replacing Oriana is that it is an adult only ship whereas I am guessing that the new ship will be a "family" ship therefore my money, if there is to be a ship going, would be Oceana or possibly Aurora.

I would guess at Aurora, it appears to be the only ship that hasn't had a substantial amount of money spent on it recently, I would be sorry to see it go as it has always been my favourite ship of the fleet but it has been "dogged" with problems since day one :(

I think it will be Oriana. The adult-only issue could be resolved by redesignating Aurora as adult-only. Obviously there would be an outcry...

My preference would be one I don't like and would never use again. I'd go for Azura. From what I've seen of the new ship we shan't be sailing on her either. The market for cruising is supposed to be increasing and I don't think Carnival would invest in a new ship to replace one that is already in service and making money.

I think it's likely to be Oceana that goes which would be a shame as she really is a lovely ship. Otherwise it's going to be either Oriana or Aurora - Aurora because of the continued problems with reliability and, as previously mentioned, she's the only ship not to have had a significant refit in the last few years; Oriana's issue is, again as previously mentioned, her age but in her favour is that she's had a refit relatively recently and been switched to adult only.

Personally I'd ditch Oriana. Out of the P & O ships that I've been on, I liked Oriana slightly less than the other ships

I would not be at all surprised if Aurora and Oriana went but my money is on Aurora going unless she has a major re-fit in the not too distant future.

I would think Oceana, but would prefer it to be Oriana. Oriana just didn't "do it" for us, but then neither did Aurora really.

I'd actually prefer the fleet to be increased to eight. I'm relieved to note that (at the time of posting), nobody has given a vote to Ventura. She's our favourite and we'd hate to see her go. Can everyone stop voting for Oceana please, as she's at the top of the leaderboard for facing the chop and I like her too. lol ;)

With the 3 rd large ship looming, it may well be time to split the brand and have a more relaxed informal cruise on the larger ones and leave the smaller ones to the more traditional cruiser
it would also be an opportunity to increase the adults only compliment by one more or even base a small ship full time in the med to cover the Greek islands, Red sea etc etc

I voted for none but I suppose it depends on how well P&O can fill all the berths.
Assuming they do decide they need to reduce the number I imagine it would depend on the profitabilty of each ship, I would expect P&O do have such statistics, although if they are dependant on the IT department for this data then heaven help them.
My choice would be purely on age and number of balcony cabins, so poor old Oriana would be the one for the knackers yard, or should that be for selling off to Australia.

I think it will be Aurora, she looked very tired the last time we sailed on her which was back in 2011. I will be sorry to see her go, if she is the one to go, as she was the first ship we cruised on

Aurora has such a good name and loved by so many, (we have had many cruises on her, spending 4 months in 2006 and were on her for the Grand Event to the Baltic, that I seriously believe that if PandO were to take her out of service for 6 - 9 MONTHS and give her a thorough refit, then the 'faithful' would be quite prepared to pay that little bit extra to sail on her.

Mike, i think your idea of 6-9 months would be a commercial disaster ... Alsoa program the other night was talking about building a new ship in as little as 6 months

We have sailed on all of the present fleet. Aurora we sailed on for the first time recently. Although it had some nice features it is desperately in need of a lot of money spending on it. The newer ships have so much more to offer in the way of choice of both dining venues and entertainment.
I voted for Aurora as this is one ship which I doubt we will sail on again. I do hope for those who prefer the mid size ship that the Aurora stays and that P & O do not have to lose any ship.

I went for Oriana, based mainly on her age and that she doesn't have as many balcony cabins. Balcony cabins are a easy way for the cruise ship companies to generate extra income, so poor old Oriana won't generate as much income for the same number of passengers. Well that's my theory anyway. It's a pity if she does go, as she's my joint favourite PandO ship that I've been on. The other being dear old Artemis (now Artania?)

I wouldn't be disappointed if Oceana were to go.

I didn't think Oriana because her last refit was extensive, I think Aurora is very popular the two big ones are relatively new, as is Adonia in fleet terms, so we had Arcadia & Oceana..I felt that Ocean's refit was rushed, not that extensive & the feeling was she was being ''done up'' to flog.

I'm afraid I voted for Oceana (sorry) - She is my least favourite ship so far - so I wouldn't miss her !
