Lovely day in the south northlands. Just been on a heritage steam railway with the grandchildren. Now smell dinner cooking. And in the lead naturally.

Maybe, but my fingers are black from shelling all those broad beans !!

Last time I grew broad beans, I couldn't get near them for black- and white-fly

Tip of the day! Blackfly are attracted to the soft growing tips of the broad bean plant so if you pinch out the tips, it won't attract the blackfly - and it concentrates more energy into producing the beans rather then growing for the sky.

Thank you, I shall try to persuade the Lady C to give up some of our small veg plot for broad beans next year. Had to push for her to try a couple of short rows of carrots this year. She prefers to grow climbing French beans, onions and some salad crops
