No news of any developments as far as I know. There's a message to that effect on Facebook.

Mr OBF

Thanks

It does look as if their main site is working well, in fact it is very user friendly, my recent cruise enquiry was answered in depth and quickly

But very dismissal regarding the CC website - hence my post

they have studiously ignored the question posted on FB this afternoon - answered the ones either side and bypassed that one!

I think it should be considered that financing, whatever the cost, the Forum was not a good site for promoting "the" product

Looks like another RIP scenario to me

As long as David is prepared to keep this place open, I have no problem with bidding goodbye to the P&O alternative.

It reminds me of the situation with The Archers message board which the BBC are getting rid of. Users believe it was outspoken criticism on that site that led to its demise.

What happened to freedom of speech?

I believe it is being made obsolete, together with good manners and consideration to other people....

I see the point you're making Anneed, but why would any commercial firm fund a site if it was being used to criticise their product? Plus it is clear technically that it was causing problems with the workings of their website generally, making it more difficult to run their core business of selling cruises. I'd not be surprised if it never re-appeared, though I would be disappointed as, in my view, it had more good points than bad - not least bringing together a lot of cyber friends who are now hanging out here!

As market research it was an invaluable source at very low cost.

I once posted on the old Forum that if I was a figure of authority at P&O I would seriously consider closing the Cruise Community because I felt it's negativity far ourweighed its positivity. I was absolutely slated and received over a hundred replies to my post disagreeing with me. The concensus then was that P&O valued our contributions. I didn't agree with that point of view then and I think recent (non) events lately support my opinion.

I hope I am wrong in my personal belief that the P&O Forum will not return but I honestly don't think it will. If it was going to return I suspect that P&O would have been advising us more regularly of the situation.

My view is that it will probably return because it served as a very useful sounding board for P&O.

It benefits hugely from having the free ship to site link and being able to potentially tap into a continuous stream of new Cruisers into their Community Site ... something we cannot do on here of course.

Much of the negative posting was a direct consequence of wishy washy Moderation but that lesson I believe has been learnt, albeit the hard way. That just leaves the removal of the CP link and all will then be well regarding performance.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

The fact that we have gathered here onto this 'alternative' forum only reinforces the need and want of a forum.
I have to say I was not aware of any 'bad' things going on because I was really looking for advice and to have a chat with fellow ship mates and to read the wonderful reports and blogs.
Although I do see where you are coming from and really as much as I would hope P&O do reinstate the forum it seems the lack of updates might suggest they will not run with it.
For my own experience once I have logged on I am more likely to navigate the rest of the P&O site when there is a forum. I do not look at any other cru ise companies as they don't interest me at this time but if they have a forum I am more likely to do so. I also don't take much notice of anyone who is being nasty as bullies are best served as to ignore them and they soon go quiet.

In some ways negative comments are more valuable than the positive.

I've gone beyond wanting the P & O forum back, it's in the past now.

I'm more than happy with this forum.

I'd rather have a constructive comment than a negative one. It helps the forum to improve.

Thank you to all those who enjoy the forum David has provided and have said so.

you're both right - a negative comment is more useful - if it is constructive

I personally am not bothered if it comes back or not.

I am far happier using this forum than I was with the old one. I feel that this one has a friendlier feel and that it will hopefully remain so.

I also think the forum rules are fair and this will contribute to its lasting success.

The reluctance to reinstate the P&O community forum is more likely a reflection of how bad things are for cruise lines in general.... none of them can afford bad PR at present so I’m sure there is some truth in what Robbie aka (AOTH) has said, however, perhaps if P&O had put more thought into how their customer base would react to some of their underhand practices then they may well have avoided negative feedback in the first place?

Who wants to slap my wrist first :?: :o :)

Unless I haven't found where they are I am missing the daily blogs from people whilst they are on a cruise. I suspect it's the lack of free access that has caused this

Having just acquired a laptop (possibly on just a temporary basis) I am interested in posting a blog of our next cruise in 20 days (not that I'm counting) but wouldn't know where to start. I'd need to set up roaming on my mobile and tether it to the laptop for use on the ship whilst in port (have to work out how to do that, too), as I think this would be much cheaper (and faster) than using the ship's internet link.

Shiney, the other alternative is to use your laptop to write your blog in a word document, then access this forum from your lappy with some free wi-fi in port. Just copy the word document into the reply box... and Robert is your father's brother!
