We are doing Valencia too Rob, have been told that it is an easy DIY city with loads to do. However we have decided to do the P&O cruise here which includes the trip to The San Jose caves which sounds really good.
... apart from the bog-standard Moby reply about getting a Thomas Cook guide!
Getting a Thomas Cook guide is a very good idea ... it is a lovely City and there's lots to see and to visit, the book will help you to make choices that best suit you.
This ' free ' wwwdot may also be of some assistance
Hi Rob - Valencia is one of those places we would love to go back to as we thoroughly enjoyed our day there. Unfortunately all my notes are in a box which has not yet been unpacked since moving but I can remember we were taken into the old town by shuttle bus.We wandered so I can't give any specific advice or directions but it was easy to get around. There is a cathedral but we didn't go in because there was a wedding taking place but I think you can go up the tower. We climbed the tower of another nearby church as there wasn't a queue there and we also found a huge undercover market. You will love the place.
Valencia is a beautiful city, and an easy DIY with lots to see. The shuttle drops you off near the Torres de Serranos, you need the shuttle, it is a good 30 mins by coach, from ship to city. It is then short walk down one street to the centre coming out near the Cathedral. Most of the main sites are within 10 – 15 mins of the Cathedral. Can I recommend a visit to the market, massive with a very ornate ceiling and so much fresh fruit, veg, meat and fish. The side streets are full of small shops selling some nice stuff at reasonable prices.
There are two HOHO buses, Red and Blue routes with the red route going from Placa de la Reina near the Cathedral. For those who like shopping there are 8 Corte Inglas and some great boutiques.
We got the free shuttle from the ship (there were two - we got on the wrong one) and went to L'L'Oceanogràfic - it really was a fab place. We just paid for a taxi back which wasn't much
