Hi Tinks, that is very walkable. From the port go to the main railway station, there you can get the water bus to the centre or follow the signs to San Marco which take you on foot to the to the centre. And the centre of attention, which for now is me, caurse I am in front.

...he said hopefully, but very mistakenly

Not long until I return to the good ship Arcadia - have any of you been to Venice on a cruise ship and is it walkable in or do I need a water taxi/shuttle?
I would not pay for the ships shuttle water bus which goes back to St Marks via the Guidecca canal, the way the ships go in.
Take the people mover from just outside the port entrance to either Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto then take the Vaporetto down the grand canal to St Marks square, much more scenic. Tronchetto is less crowded just make sure you get on the Vaporetto going via the Grand canal.
After touristing round St Marks you can either go back to the ship the same way or stroll back to Piazzale Roma and the people mover back to the ship. There are lots of pages on the web giving interesting sightseeing routes.

Stephen, she used to post under the name Welshnurse, but hasn't been on the forum since she got married a couple of years ago.

She picked up a tummy bug from her baby yesterday (the Lady C got it the day before and was violently sick) and got worried when she got tingling in her extremities. The NHS helpline told her to go to A&E so the Lady C had to go and mind the baby while I took Welshie and her hubby to the hospital. The did a few tests, rehydrated her and sent her home. We eventually got to bed at 0315. Thanks for your good wishes, Cubie.

Glad it's nothing more serious. There seems to be an awful lot of this sickness malarkey around at the moment - call it Noro or what you will. I had it about a month ago - came on really suddenly in the middle of the night and I was zonked for 2 full days. Hope she starts to feel better soon!

So far , I've been okay, apart from being so tired today that my colleagues sent me back home to bed. Welshie's husband has now got it.

Sorry about all this illness. It is truly horrible. And not even had the pleasure of a few days on a third world cruise ship prior to catching it! Must tell the media it's now spreading ashore. And what about the compo? :sarcasm:

"Plague Bedroom" doesn't have the same populist ring to it as "Plague Ship" so not really newsworthy !
