In a couple of weeks (31st Jan/1st Feb) Ian and I will be taking his layout 'Humber Dock' to the exhibition at the Stafford County Showground.

Well there's Stoke Mandeville in September, when Clecklewyke will be on show. Next month Tim Venton (from Bristle) will be taking his layout Clutton to a show in Utrecht

Thanks, Notso. Unfortunately, the Lady C is working that weekend so I won't be able to get there.

Re: Railway modelling
Well, I've taken the plunge and bought a Hornby eLink DCC controller. I have to say it was a pig to set up and the laptop, after initially installing and registering the unit, many times refused to acknowledge its presence. The one (so far) chipped loco that I now have is recognised but I haven't a clue how to configure the CVs.
I've got another three locos on order.
Have I bitten off more than I can chew? Time will tell...

Re: Railway modelling
Hopefully I can start building the baseboards in the loft in a week or two... I can't find anywhere (unless I'm asking Google the wrong question) to show me how to connect lights to the DCC chip. Any pointers gratefully received.

Re: Railway modelling
It's some time since this thread, which David kindly set up at my request, was updated so I thought I'd put up a couple of pictures of progress to date:

Re: Railway modelling
Looking good Alan, a neighbour of mine had an amazing layout that covered the entire loft of his house and must have cost him thousands over the years. He sadly passed away last year and the house is now up for sale but I wonder if the daughters have realised that his layout is up there.

Re: Railway modelling
Thanks, Ray. It can be a very expensive hobby, and already way beyond the reach of youngsters.
There are many companies looking to buy layouts such as your neighbours, who will also dismantle - if you feel it appropriate to mention it to the family, I can let you have some contact details

Re: Railway modelling
I keep trying to catch them Alan but I suppose now the house is up for sale I will see even less of them, it would be a shame if someone bought the house that wasn't interested in railway modeling.Silver_Shiney wrote:Thanks, Ray. I would have loved to get hold of it myself but I have enough projects on the go as it is so it is best left to an enthusiast who has the time to appreciate it.
It would probably take something like a Luton van to shift it and nothing less than an electronics expert to put it all together again, everything was digitally controlled, railway crossings, turntables, signals and points all worked from a laptop.
Put my wind up Hornby to shame.
