Stayed there. Not a bad place, but yes, can be a bit of a trek from the main building to your room.qbman1 wrote: 02 May 2017, 12:47Cricket St Thomas. Talk about a warren - even my bunnies would have got lost trying to find their room after a night on the lash !

Re: Last One to Post Wins
Might be a bit of an issue crossing that outside bit by the church in wintertime and the long corridors linking the accommodation block with the main house are really quite soulless

Re: Last One to Post Wins
We always try and get a room in the main building when staying at any hotel. So many people must get caught out when booking a room, us included in the past. They see the lovely old hotel building advertised thinking that is where they will be staying, only to end up in some pokey room block out in the back of beyond.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
We did actually have the last room available as it was a late booking so we were right at the end of the corridor on the walled garden - definitely the end of the line ! Quiet spot though. If we ever went there again, we would definitely go for something in the main block, overlooking the gardens

Yes, and I'm still not sure about a second. Room was really good but service, food, entertainment and value for money not a patch on cruising

Re: Last One to Post Wins
Agree with you there. We have stayed at a few of them. They use to be really good but have gone down hill in my view. They're not cheap stays either. The old dears with large disposable incomes must like them though as they are always fully booked.
We won't be doing another.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
We've obviously joined the party too late then! They were doing 50% off for bookings of Standard Rooms and we have been bombarded with e-mails and letters since we returned so the rooms clearly don't let themselves. Personally, I was not enamoured with the emphasis on buffet and carvery food. OK, the waiters were really good and even made our toast at breakfast but I feel they could do it all so much better.
As you know, Cricket, I think that it would be really good if they kept the main Treetops restaurant as it is for all those people who clearly like the buffet and carvery but they could so easily make the smaller Granary restaurant waiter service only. I would then definitely go again (if they could also install a teleport system between the Granary and main house !!)

When we did Bembridge the service and entertainment weren't bad and our Royale room was splendid and well placed. It was just the public rooms were a bit (okay a lot) dated, and then there were those stains. Will definitely take a plastic sheet to sit on if we go again!

Re: Last One to Post Wins
Does Bembridge just have one large dining room or is there a smaller alternative venue ?

One large that does a choice of waiter service or carvery. Though you can get snacks in the bar but they're extra. With the Royale room we got a nice seaview table. Could watch the ships go by while we ate.
