Well l was sort of hoping that Merv might agree with me that the way to cure the BBC's left wing bias is to privatise it and for it to have to seek its funding from the market somehow.

Perhaps if they moved offices out of the large cities and into smaller towns and more rural areas there would be no need for commuting at all and less impact on the environment. Of course they would lose out on their fancy London and Manchester addresses. Cram more and more into already overpopulated areas and it is little surprise that problems are created which can only be resolved by increasing the infrastructure. Meanwhile other parts of the country get by on outdated and at times archaic road and rail systems.

You clearly missed the story that the Daily Wail did (through gritted teeth no doubt) that the top 5 TV programmes at Christmas were all on the BBC!

Oh and the Wail also covered the rail price increase. Nasty left wing rag!

I agree the Wail does tend to accentuate the negatives a bit too much for my liking, but I can see it's shortcomings which fortunately are few, however I notice you were not prepared to berate the Beeb which is always anti govt. and so far to the left that it's in danger of going round in circles.

You're right in the first bit Towny, but not the second. The BBC has always held the government to account, whichever party is in power. Which is perfectly proper challenging journalism. It's not left wing it is anti establishment. Alistair Cambell consistently claimed it was right wing when it was similarly critical of the Blair goverment.

But I don't see reporting of the rail price increase as a political story. It's reporting of fact. Yes the increase was announced in the summer. It came into effect this week.

The stupidity of the clowns that drive the currency Markets is apparent again, they are all betting on an interest rate rise because they expect inflation to remain high, so sterling is appreciating.
Someone should point out to them that sterling's recent weakness has been the main driver of the inflation increase, ergo once sterling inreases inflation will fall, and the B of E will no longer need to increase interest rates. Daft bats.

Harking back to my point about sterling strengthening, not only that but the footsie remains strong as well. I wonder if David Cameron's admission that he got it wrong about the effects of Brexit is beginning to have an influence on market sentiment?
