As a name it's ok, but seems an odd choice as there's no link between P & O and Iona. It's not even a port that they've called at before.
I feel slightly nonplussed by the name.

I believe Iona is the name of a Scottish Isle so I don't see any connection to previous ships namings but I'm sure all will be revealed eventually re the choice.

Indeed Moby I just find it strange P&O have moved away from the names such as Aurora, Adonia, Ventura etc which all suggest a connection to the sea or from Greek mythological names which also appear to have sea connections, I guess Iona is an island in the sea so there's a connection to the sea but it's very loose !! there may of course be a Greek goddess named Iona but not one I'm familiar with.

Love the idea of Iona being a cruise port. If the new ship was placed between Iona and Mull you wouldn’t even need a ferry....you could just walk along the prom deck.

The thing is John that bright, jazzy, up tempo is precisely the description of cruise ships I don't like. I prefer elegant, classy and understated. Like Britannia.

Don't get me wrong Merv I would rather be on Britannia than not on a cruise at all, but it's not my first, or even second, choice. Which is a shame because its prices are generally the lowest, which sort of proves my point about its popularity.
