All Suspended Until April 11th

#1

Post by david63 »

Just been announced that all P&O, and presumably Cunard, operations have been suspended until April 11th and all ships are returning to Southampton.

Also P&O will pay any "reasonable" out of pocket expenses.

i don't think that is going to be long enough. how long can they drag this out. surely the writing must be on the wall for at least 6 months to enable all the countries to get their acts together again.

Hopefully they will give their stall free board and lodgings?

Fred Olsen have suspended their cruises until 23rd May. I’m not sure if that’s enough, but it was much more reasonable, and took the pressure off for the time being.

Not quite. The crew do not know how long they will be retained until a further assessment is made but they are certainly staying on board for at least a week - doing cleaning and other odd jobs.

The problem is that there is no guarantee that the staff will be able to get home and if they do then they do not know when, or if, they will be able to get back.

Hi David,

For a company with a multi million pound turnover l don't think it would be too much to ask of them to charter a couple of jumbo's to fly them home. I think it would be difficult for a country to refuse entry to its own nationals?

At the moment they will need the staff again on April 11th. Of course we all know that date is unlikely but the option has to be there.

This is an interesting one.
3 of us are boomed on R006 on the 11th April.

Yesterday we all received an e mail from P and O saying that this was one of the cruises cancelled. 2 of us decided to use the link and opt for a full refund.
My travel agent a cruise specialist is telling me the cruise is definitely cancelled and they are contacting their clients booked on this cruise for cancellation options. My friends travel agent is taking a different line and is saying that the cruise is still live on the system and is sailing.

If travel agents are not sure what's going on what hope is there for the poor passenger.

We were booked on that cruise but following the announcement from P&O about cancellations we contacted our travel agent who has switched the booking to another P&O cruise.
I doubt very much that the cruise will still be sailing.

Think it's a sure thing with the governments 30 day travel ban.

I saw Aurora alongside in Southampton yesterday at the Ocean Cruise Terminal. Overnight she has been moved over to the City Cruise Terminal.

Ventura is now alongside at the Ocean Terminal.

Apparently she is being moved to Dover (not confirmed) in a couple of days.

I see that Aurora is out in mid channel stretching her legs. It may be that they need to replenish their fresh water from their desalinators. She should be back around 19:21 this evening.

Ventura is still alongside.

The Marella Celebration (TUI) appears to be on her way in too but she's running late.

Aurora is definitely heading that way towards Dover but her AIS is stating her destination as Southampton. Probably an oversight.

I expect the berthing fees in Dover are cheaper ;)

I was joking. It was to have been in April. Have had a few e mails requesting patience whilst the TA deals with the cruises before ours so it came as a surprise to say our tickets were ready.

The suitcases were back in the loft a long while back.

Boris is saying he hopes the peak will have been reached in 12 weeks so we must assume the govt travel advisory will not be relaxed before then, and more likely a further 1 or 2 months before they are lifted.
So my prediction is that cruising will not restart until Sept at the earliest. We are therefore going to face regular decisions to decide whether to pay the final balance of current future bookings.
We have our next cruise booked for mid Sept so will need to decide in mid June whether to pay the balance or take a FCC for the deposit.

Arcadia world cruise and Aurora S American adventure also cancelled, which must put in doubt any of their cruises planned for before then, it seems unlikely P&O would re-start them only to lay them up again for most of Q1.
