P & O community site

Unread post by jacksparrow »

Further update posted today states and I quote:

The P&O Cruises Community section is currently unavailable due to some website performance issues to which it was contributing. Our priority has to be the overall stability of the website, and as such we have taken the decision to leave the Community area offline until further notice.

Updates will be on facebook.... so a majority of you may already know this but thought for those of you, like me, that arent on it that I would like you know...

Thanks JS,
Well then ... long live this forum.
I think it is a great shame, especially for those that wanted to keep in touch with family and friends via the groups system on the old forum.

So if anybody has constructive ideas to improve this forum then please suggest away.

I think it was probably what we were all expecting :o

This forum is far superior to anything P&O provided ( in the six years or so that I was a member of it ) so as you say Ken " long live this one"  :D

Perhaps D63 could contact P&O, again, given this latest update ...

* P&O to contact the missing Cummunity site Members, assuming that they did not do so when DTM originally requested it.

It's a shame but I'm not at all surprised. If it was causing problems for the rest of the site (perhaps due to the volume of traffic - that'll be our fault) and given the number of people who used it as an opportunity to attack P&O, why would they keep it running? I don't know of any other cruise company that provides an in-house forum.

The greatest regret, sadly, is not for the people already here - who have made contact originally via the P&O site - but more for the new cruisers who will not have such immediate access to the wealth of knowledge which now resides here and may never find us.

Personally think the P&O forum was doing more harm than good to P&O and that was why there were problems with the forum for nearly 2 years that they said they were sorting out. But think honestly that they were not interested and just looking for a convenient time to dump it.

I have been reading some of the comments on the P&O Facebook page and I think they do P&O much more harm than the Community Forum ever did. The Facebook page is not really somewhere to go to receive information about specific things - this is far superior in every way - long may it continue!

This is not unexpected, but it would be great if the newbies to P & O could have knowledge of and access to this site. There is a wealth of information and advice on here just waiting to be tapped. I have tried FB but somehow I cant get the hang of it!! :?

I reiterate that the ideal solution would be for P&O to include a link to this lovely place and to provide free on-board access to the site. That way, they don't need to provide the facility themselves and we get access to PMs and blogs whilst on board. Everyone wins !

Not quite ' everybody ' ... puss cat ...

Mods and Admin could no doubt be changed from time to time but the ' Smurf ' will have adopted a lifetime's unpaid work which is highly unlikely to be too well received ... I would have thought.

That would be such a good idea to get in touch with all the forum members. I only found this one by chance and I'm so glad I did as I'm now back in touch with people I met on the old forum who i had a hope in hell of finding otherwise. So thank you for setting this one up.

Just like to add my thanks for setting up this site - much better than P & O. I did look at the Facebook site but found it messy!

The one item I miss is the "live" blogs of cruisers. They were really informative about all aspects of the cruises and of course used to update people on any problems! And of course - I think it was free for passengers to use.

Is there anything similar on this site?

Hi Jill, try the cruise ship section. I updated our cruise on Azura whenever I found WI Fi ashore.

Jill, it would be nice if we had 'live' blogs and as internet access to P&O's site was free it made it easier to post the blogs.
Unfortunately we don't have that facility and rely on members finding a wi-fi spot ashore, or using their own shipboard internet time to post their reports.

Having just joined Cruise Community, I must say the format and layout is far superior to the P&O community site and far more stable. More power to your elbow Cruise Community.
