The only item that seemed a bit on the low side was pasta

The NHS Covid-19 app does not seem to use much battery power - in fact there was hardly any more battery useage than normal, which is what it is claimed to be the case.Gill W wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 10:01as my phone battery is so ropey, I’m concerned that another app running in the background will kill the battery once and for all

It was also a shortage of pasta at the start of the pandemic, especially so the plastic varieties.

I know what my phone is like. The slightest use can suck the life out of it.david63 wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 11:19The NHS Covid-19 app does not seem to use much battery power - in fact there was hardly any more battery useage than normal, which is what it is claimed to be the case.Gill W wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 10:01as my phone battery is so ropey, I’m concerned that another app running in the background will kill the battery once and for all

Of course, if Labour were in charge, not a hint of criticism would pass your lips!towny44 wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 13:19Just listening to critics of Rishi's new plans on the news, all saying it does not go far enough. So until they can conjure more money that does not increase the national debt my advice to them is to belt up.

It matters little as to what scheme any Government were to bring out as there will always be winners and there will always be losers not mention that someone, somewhere will criticise it for either not going far enough or going too far.towny44 wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 13:19Just listening to critics of Rishi's new plans on the news, all saying it does not go far enough. As a Labour supporter I admit that I’m pretty disappointed with our response so far.towny44 wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 13:19Just listening to critics of Rishi's new plans on the news, all saying it does not go far enough. Makes no difference as to whether you leave the house or not as it is scanning all the time (assuming you have Contact tracing turned on)Gill W wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 13:19I’m monitoring what’s happening , although I haven’t left the house yet.

If it was a Labour govt doing similar things, then I hope I would be supportive of them in general, and would only be criticising them for not answering their critics more robustly with clearer explanations of what is going wrong and what actions are being taken to rectify the problems. Which in my view is the main beef I have with BJ and his cabinet.Gill W wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 13:23Of course, if Labour were in charge, not a hint of criticism would pass your lips!towny44 wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 13:19Just listening to critics of Rishi's new plans on the news, all saying it does not go far enough. You could always turn the other battery draining app off if that is of such a concern.

I think most people are supporting the government in that we are doing what the government asks us to do in relation to COVID. You yourself say that you have some beefs with Johnson and his cabinet, so it's only to be expected that other people will have other beefs and will speak up about them. Anyway, if people kept quiet, and didn't speak up until later, they'd be hit with the hindsight card!towny44 wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 15:17If it was a Labour govt doing similar things, then I hope I would be supportive of them in general, and would only be criticising them for not answering their critics more robustly with clearer explanations of what is going wrong and what actions are being taken to rectify the problems. I have a Garmin SatNav with the same problem ... why can't we just replace the blasted batteries rather than having to buy a new device ?Gill W wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 16:09.... It's not just one other battery draining app, it's the battery that is the issue.
The long term solution is to get a new phone, which I will be doing. In the interim, I work with what I've got.

My little gadget shop man did a sort of 2 Ronnie's suck of the teeth when I took my HTC phone in to see if he could replace the battery, before telling me they were the worst phones for replacing batteries. I imagine he uses the same script for every other make of phone as well.Manoverboard wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 16:18I have a Garmin SatNav with the same problem ... why can't we just replace the blasted batteries rather than having to buy a new device ?Gill W wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 16:09.... Definitely not, if you kill them then you can't make them suffer.

No because courts can make mistakes that are discovered later. But I would support a standard non variable whole life sentence with no parole possibility ever. In the harshest prison available.

I'm sort of with Merv on this with the proviso that I don't have to pay for their upkeep for however many years.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 18:46No because courts can make mistakes that are discovered later. Should certainly seize all.their assets. And keep costs as low as possible. If a pensioner can live on £7k so can they!david63 wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 18:48I'm sort of with Merv on this with the proviso that I don't have to pay for their upkeep for however many years.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 25 Sep 2020, 18:46No because courts can make mistakes that are discovered later. Yes! But with a ten year stay of execution for appeals etc
