Covid doesn't discriminate. It doesn't care what race you are, rich or poor, young or old. If it can it will try and kill you.

Something to ponder with Christmas coming up!

Sorry to hear your sad news Screwy. Although not Covid related my 97 year old mother passed away this afternoon in hospital - she suffered a major stroke two weeks ago and didn’t recover. The doctors were astonished that she had never spent a single night in hospital and was still living on her own. We worked so hard to protect her from Covid and would have been so upset if she had caught it so your anger is so justified Screwy - take care xxx

That's really sad news Jan. There is very little any of us can say other than to say how sorry we are and to send you our condolences. She was a good age and seems to have coped well in her old age but it's not easy when you lose them. RIP.

You and my mother shared a love of horse racing and its been strange over the past two weeks seeing racing on the tv - she followed it since she was young and her stepfather was a bookies "runner" before it became legal - bit before your time I'm sure ;)

To steal the words of a Danish Author,

The Vaccines should be tested on Politicians first. If they survive, the Vaccine is safe.

Yes she served there as a civilian appointed by the Foreign Office from May 1944 to October 1945 as a "morse slip reader" - she typed letters in blocks of 5 onto a tape and it was taken away for decoding - she says she had no idea what went on outside of the hut she worked in.

She kept her secret until the 1970's and when the significance of what happened there during the war became public knowledge she said she worked there - we were all flabbergasted and my father was quite upset he didn't know but she said said she had signed the Official Secrets Act and couldn't tell anybody - her mother had no idea where she was or what she was doing.

I don't think there are many veterans left now - she was just 21 when she went to work there.

I remember you telling me about her Jan. She sounds an incredible woman and certainly knew how to keep a secret. It's an amazing story and well worth the telling. Fancy not telling your father!!!
My nephew tells his wife very little. He says if he did it would be all over the village before lunch time!!!

That was my father definitely - we took them to Bletchley Park many years ago when it first opened to the public and the first thing he did on the tour was tell the guide "my wife worked here during the war" - my mother hated the attention and really didn't like being pointed out

Father in law passed away this morning with COVID, he was admitted to hospital 10 days ago with another matter and tested positive 5 days later after an initial negative test when admitted.
Served in the Navy during the war. Sunk twice and served on Lct on D-Day, Shoreham to Gold Beach....He deserved a better end....bug*er, bug*er bug*er..😢😢
Sorry to hear about your loss , screwy.

It seems that hospital is the most dangerous place to be with reference to catching Covid.

We got the e-mail yesterday telling us that Covid is now in the mother-in-law's care home in Exeter.
Two staff and two residents although she isn't one of them yet.
The residents are all now in room lockdown.
That will affect her particularly badly as she is a wanderer.
She will be even more confused, we expect.
We are just so sad about about the entire dementia situation.
What a way for a vibrant personality to go.
It's like watching a balloon being slowly deflated so at the end you are left with the balloon but nothing inside.
As a family, we've all agreed that should we get the phone call telling us the worst, it will be a welcome relief both for all of us and more importantly, her.
This current situation is just heartbreaking.
