I blame the new mutation on all the migrants.! If Stephen and Gill manned the Kent beaches it wouldn’t have happened...Let’s face it, one wrong word and they would have paddled back sharpish.
I am only joking.

First a couple of facts.Could it be that other countries also have a mutation that has not been identified as quickly as the UK one has?
- The Covid virus has mutated in London/South of England.
- Most Western European countries are seeing a spike in the number of Covid infections.
Could the European mutated virus(es) also be contributing to the current spike in the South of England?
I would have thought both are highly possible David. I do wonder if the culling of mink that has taken place in the Netherlands has something to the mutation progress of this virus?

Oh goody, goody - the police are not going to enforce the rules in London over Christmas
That's just given carte blanche to the brain dead idiots to party
Code: Select all
Police won’t be checking up on people’s Christmas celebrations in London, according to the chairman of the Met Police Federation.
The UK government has introduced strict coronavirus measures in south-east England which means residents will only be allowed to celebrate Christmas with members of their own household and support bubbles.
On Sunday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said it was the job of the police to enforce the law.
However, Ken Marsh told the BBC News Channel: "It’s not a tough ask for us because it won’t be happening."
He said his colleagues "won’t be knocking on people’s doors at all", unless there is a large group - such as a party - but "there is no way" the force would be dealing with smaller gatherings.
Marsh said it was always the job of the police to "police the law" but it has to be something "we can police, it has to be something we understand, and it has to give us time to digest what is being put in place".
He added that the laws were changing "on a daily, weekly basis making it very, very difficult" and some of them were "not obtainable" in terms of what the police were being asked to do.-

We have some of the best scientists and researchers in the world working at institutions across the country. The new variant is the first to have its lineage to be recorded and thus the scientists can track its course. An outbreak in a food factory can be traced thru the workers, if the DNA of the virus is the same then one person may have introduced it into the factory.david63 wrote: 21 Dec 2020, 11:02Some thoughts from a non scientific person.

In another outbreak it may have come in from a different part of the country or indeed brought in from another country.
The thing is, thru genome investigation and sequencing they are able to track the virus back to were it came from and get an idea of what is the course of an outbreak.
Don't worry, be happy

According to Rueters, this new strain started in North Africa and was carried into Spain via migrant workers fruit picking, and from Spain into the U.K. by tourism.

Who’d have thought it?

Yesterday ministers and supermarkets were assuring us there were plentiful supplies to ride out the 48 hour French closure of the cross channel routes.
Today some bright spark at Sainsburys decided to announce there would be empty shelves. A guarantee to encourage panic buying. If I can't get sprouts or toilet paper tomorrow heads will roll.

In Kent, it was north Kent that originally saw the most infections, so unless the migrants were ignoring the channel coast and sailing into the Thames Estuary, then down the Medway to Chatham, I don't think this is down to the migrants !screwy wrote: 21 Dec 2020, 11:13I blame the new mutation on all the migrants.! Re: Current Affairs
We have a Sainsbury's delivery between 8 and 9 this evening. The email said everything was in stock, so I am beyond excited that I will get my rocket leaves (I love rocket). The email was timed at 5.45 this morning, so I think all the orders are picked before the store opens

Ours is due tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Our email usually comes first thing too. There's a lot in the list this week but not much fresh and nothing crucial except sprouts and King Edwards

I feel sorry for all these truckers either stacked up along the motorway or in the port waiting and waiting for this mess to be sorted out. Not to mention the amount of perishable goods that are going to have to be dumped. Comfy cab or not, it must be horrible.

Re: Current Affairs
The stupid thing about all of this is that listening to the news last night the virology experts are of the opinion that most countries in the world have got this mutated Covid virus - it's just that we are suffering because we are better, and quicker, than other countries at detecting it.
I noticed at Boris's press conference last night that selfishness was prevalent in the southern half of the country with questions like "Now the new virus is in other parts of the country should they not be moved into tier four?" - it was not a problem when other parts of the country were in a higher tier than London even though London had a higher infection rate.
And "Now there is a higher infection rate in the south should the vaccination policy be changed to target the south?" - no those who are the most vulnerable live in all parts of the country not just the south.

I agree. The new strain appears to be a factor, though the scientists are still divided on how much, but the pictures from London showed that so was stupidity.

Re: Current Affairs
It was reported on the news this morning that executives at a Birmingham hospital had helped themselves to the vaccine saying they would have gone to waste if they hadn’t used them…I don’t know all the circumstances but I would have thought they could have found more vulnerable recipients in a Hospital?
