Re: Current Affairs
For those of you who can’t see Lisa’s potential as a leader take a look at this interview…if you can put your political bias aside I’m sure you will see what I can see.

Because it demonstrates quite clearly who is and isn’t capable of answering serious questions when put under pressure….a quality you’d expect from any future leader of our country wouldn’t you think?towny44 wrote: 02 May 2021, 17:07Why are you harking back to a 2019 video clip?Onelife wrote: 02 May 2021, 16:15How’s this for a comparison…

Neil would have ripped Johnson a new one, which is exactly what he did to the other party leaders.Onelife wrote: 02 May 2021, 17:31Because it demonstrates quite clearly who is and isn’t capable of answering serious questions when put under pressure….a quality you’d expect from any future leader of our country wouldn’t you think?towny44 wrote: 02 May 2021, 17:07Why are you harking back to a 2019 video clip?Onelife wrote: 02 May 2021, 16:15How’s this for a comparison…

It actually cost Swinson her seat and ultimately her job.
Whoever advised Johnson not to be subjected to an interview made the right call in my opinion.
Had Corbyn done the same, I think Labour would have done better.
No politician can stand up to that level of questioning.

Boris probably was well advised as Neil would have made mincemeat of him…which indecently makes Lisa Nandy’s interview even more impressive…you should watch it.barney wrote: 02 May 2021, 17:50Neil would have ripped Johnson a new one, which is exactly what he did to the other party leaders.Onelife wrote: 02 May 2021, 17:31Because it demonstrates quite clearly who is and isn’t capable of answering serious questions when put under pressure….a quality you’d expect from any future leader of our country wouldn’t you think?

Re: Current Affairs
Since Starmer got the job it didn't do much for Lisa's aspirations though did it?

Re: Current Affairs
You’ve got to be in it to win it foxy and whilst she was considered an outsider in the last labour leadership contest her performances/popularity since have seen her odds tumble to near favourite for the next labour leadership contest.oldbluefox wrote: 02 May 2021, 20:16Since Starmer got the job it didn't do much for Lisa's aspirations though did it?
Perhaps I’m a sucker for a cute smile and that of her convincing integrity in wanting to take her party in a different direction…one I believe that combines her socialist views but also one that is willing to work with capitalism.
I have no desire to desert the party I voted for but I can see the potential in this young politician, who I believe could do great things for her broken party.
Keep sending the mushrooms

It appears that decorating isn't the only thing that Johnsons will accept bribes donations for. Our poor PM must be really struggling on his pitiful 6 figure salary - makes you wonder how less entitled people cope. As is often said, if he can't afford his 6(?) children then he shouldn't have had them.

Re: Current Affairs
Whilst I wasn't as enthusiastic as you about her Andrew Neil interview I think she is one of the better ones in the Labour hierarchy and comes across as being more sincere than some of the looney tunes Starmer has surrounded himself with.

It says something about the quality of Starmer that even before he has fought an election there is speculation about his successor.

I don't think it's that. It's OL who's gone off Teresa and now fancies Lisa.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 03 May 2021, 10:06It says something about the quality of Starmer that even before he has fought an election there is speculation about his successor.

"An independent Scotland should not have to pay its fair share of Britain's national debt if it quits the UK, Alex Salmond's new nationalist party has claimed."
What an arrogant idiot. Let's stop sending them money now then as a precaution.

It's just a negotiating stance, he has to start at the most favourable point for Scotland, then it's just a question of who blinks first.Stephen wrote: 03 May 2021, 17:53Mervyn and Trish wrote: 03 May 2021, 16:54"An independent Scotland should not have to pay its fair share of Britain's national debt if it quits the UK, Alex Salmond's new nationalist party has claimed."

Fair enough. So let's start from the opposite point of they take the entire UK debt. And then pay back every penny they've received through the Barnett formula.towny44 wrote: 03 May 2021, 18:41It's just a negotiating stance, he has to start at the most favourable point for Scotland, then it's just a question of who blinks first.Stephen wrote: 03 May 2021, 17:53Mervyn and Trish wrote: 03 May 2021, 16:54"An independent Scotland should not have to pay its fair share of Britain's national debt if it quits the UK, Alex Salmond's new nationalist party has claimed."
