Now call me cynical if you want but why will Germany no allow anyone in from the UK when our infection rate (even taking the Indian variant into account) is a third of that of Germany and our death rate one twentieth? I am sure it is based on scientific data and is not political :sarcasm: - even Spain will let us in (I know we cannot go!) and their data is not that much different to Germany.

I believe the answer to that is B.1.617.2

And they think they don't already have it?

The reason we know we have it is simple. We so as much sequencing of samples to identify the variants as the rest of the world put together. Not just Eurooe, the world. So in Germany as in most other countries they don't know because they're not looking hard enough.

I have no idea on whether or not they think they have it. They have their own testing program and fact finding methodologies, which may be just as, less, or more, robust than ours. However it is their country and their rules and, just like us, they will (or at least, should) make decisions based on the best of evidence that is available to them on any given day.

My point was that the EU were supposed to be coming up with a unified plan as to who could visit any EU country and it now seems that each country is going its own way.

I think they would like to come up with a unified plan but within their rules each country is allowed to adopt their own approach. I suspect that there will be a lot of alignment on many issues, but that will diverge when it affects economies directly.

We had a double dose of 'Innocent' instead. The song contest has never been the same since Katie Boyle retired. It's seriously become a parade of oddities the results determined on political alliances. Definitely quirky and fascinatingly predictable but not for me.

I still enjoy Eurovision and think it is going from strength to strength in the quality of performances. I though it a fair result although my money was on France.

The UK entry deserved no more than what it got.

And Germany came second to last. So the EU countries don't like us (their financial benefactor for years) taking our bat and ball home. And they don't like Germany for chucking their weight round. Just a theory.

For sure our song wasn't the worst there.

I watch Eurovision every year and thoroughly enjoy it. Our song was much better than nil points.

It is of course slightly deceptive. Only the first ten countries get any points from each jury/phone vote. So if you come 11th in every vote you get nil points total. But if you come bottom in every vote, but then your mate gives you 12, you get 12 total. So, for example, Greece always gives Cyprus 12 points and vice versa, so even of their song is rubblish they'll never get nil points.

It may be over analysed but our only close neighbour, who also speaks our language rarely gives us any points and we seem to be friendless in the rest of Europe.

Hmm, I must love a good “joke” ;) . I also love the original song choices which span every genre of music. I think the productions are fantastic, but most of all it’s just good old-fashioned viewing where the whole family can have a Buck Fizz while Making Your Mind Up who will be the winner.
