It's not about where the pandemic is heading. We can all see that. It's about how to change that course for the better . She has told us vaccines alone are not stopping this. I want to know what else she advocates. Not what mistakes were made in the past. What the new Health Secretary needs to do on Monday.Onelife wrote: 26 Jun 2021, 19:39I think that comment is a little unfair Sir Merv…. Gill has from the outset given us her opinion as to where this pandemic was heading way before the three-month time frame you have suggested.
In my opinion and without favour I think it fair to say Gill has been proven right on numerous occasions.

Changing the subject.
Today is Armed Forces Day,seems to have slipped us by with the Hancock affair.
Quick question. How many Veterans are there on the forum and in which service did you serve.?
I’ll kick it off,I’m ex Army, Royal Engineers.

I think we can assume that's not a decision made in the last hour or two! I hope he's reading for the media to starting sifting his dustbin for political dirt!

He’s probably got a bit of time as they will still be sifting through Matt and Gina’s bin’s just in case they’ve been getting up to any more yet undisclosed hanky panky.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 26 Jun 2021, 20:07I think we can assume that's not a decision made in the last hour or two! No vaccine ever kills off a virus, but covids bite has been blunted and severe illness and deaths have been massively reduced so let's not get too depressed about the increasing cases.Gill W wrote: 26 Jun 2021, 18:44Well, the matter wasn’t closed after all.
Johnson needs to appoint a replacement fast. Another jump in positive tests today. They need to get a grip. The vaccine alone is not stopping this
Anyway it will be interesting to see how Javid performs at the briefings, and after his resignation as chancellor on principle, he certainly has integrity in spades, so let's see how long he manages before the knives are being sharpened.

I’ve already said on here that it wasn’t the over the edge drop that I thought it may have been.towny44 wrote: 26 Jun 2021, 21:55I am still waiting for her apocalyptic predictions that were to befall us after Brexit.
But it’s a slow side down the cliff instead. I’ve refrained from posting about everything that is happening, as everybody would get all upset and start complaining about ‘not moving on’. If you like, I can start posting on this subject again ?

It certainly does look as if hospitalisation and deaths are reduced, which is something to be thankful about.towny44 wrote: 26 Jun 2021, 21:49

However, positive tests are going up rapidly now, and numbers get big quickly, this will increase hospitalisation and deaths in the upcoming weeks.
Also, there are consequences in having a rapidly spreading virus - long COVID, more mutations and other countries not wanting us to travel there. I think we should be concerned about where we are heading

I was watching a report a few days back where it said of the 117 deaths caused through the Delta strain 50 of them were fully vaccinated… that’s worrying.

As you’ve asked so nicely (sarcasm), I’ll tell you.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 26 Jun 2021, 18:57
So give us a clue. Tell us now what you would do if you got the job on Monday, rather than telling us in 3 months time what whoever actually gets it did wromg.
I would ditch this idea of ‘Terminus Day’ immediately. That simply can’t happen. We are not in a position for all restrictions to be ended
I’d also have to restrict the attendances at the Euro’s and Wimbledon and stop all these 2500 VIP’s coming in for the Euro final. If it meant the matches were moved away from England, that would probably be a good thing - less crowds.
The virus is spreading most amongst children and young people. I’d immediately mandate mask wearing in all schools ( apart from the very youngest children). The upcoming school holidays, will hopefully act as a circuit breaker to cut transmission. In order to avoid the school infection cycle starting up again in September, I’d spend the summer installing proper ventilation systems in schools and gettibg older pupils vaccinated.
I’d get test and trace fully functional and set up a proper system of support for those that need to isolate and can’t go to work.
These are a few ideas.
However, the time to implement this sort of thing is before it looks necessary, so it’s already too late. Plus, people have been led to believe it’s all over, so people are going to be less likely to adhere to restrictions.
I think it’s going to get very dicey in the upcoming weeks, so I really hope Javid sets out his stall immediately regarding what measures he’s going to take, and we are not allowed to drift to 19th July with vague noises about the data looks ok.

Absolutely. The vaccines are a major step forward, but aren’t a magic silver bullet. This is why I think mask wearing and social distancing will become the norm. We will need to be cautious for some time to come

So .... was the incriminating picture extracted from CCTV footage or is there a wizened old crone stalking the corridors of power with camera poised looking to seek revenge over poor unsuspecting males.
I think that it's poetic justice that Gina has had the chop as well, could it be that she set him up ?

They’ve both left their respective spouses for each other, so it would have been a rather dramatic way to push him into action!
