Am I being over optimistic? Although the number of Covid cases appears to be fairly steady the number of people in hospital and the number of deaths seems to be on a definite downward trend for the last week or two. That does seem to indicate that the jab is having the desired effect.

I think a high percentage of positive tests are of school age children, who probably account for very few hospital admissions.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 03 Oct 2021, 17:35Am I being over optimistic? From what I have read the majority in hospital are the unvaccinated - so yes I would say that vaccination is having the desired affect.

Re: Current Affairs
I chuckled reading today that the vaccine program has lost momentum
Surely everyone who wants one has had it and so it’s the refusers who are outstanding.
If they are not convinced by now, then they never will be.
I was surprised yesterday to find out that a local cafe owner, who I know pretty well is still unvaccinated.
When I asked him why, he said, well, umm, well, you know, still not convinced, don’t know what’s in it.

Let the bu99er run the risk of croaking it. One less drain on the NHS.

What happened to Innocent till proven Guilty.?
A serving Police Officer charged with Rape. The man is pleading not guilty but the media have named him, if he is proven innocent his life and career are now in ruins. Obviously if he is guilty he deserves what’s coming.

Only the accuser is allowed anonymity. The name of the accused can be revealed, as in other types of prosecution. There has been much debate over this.screwy wrote: 04 Oct 2021, 13:26What happened to Innocent till proven Guilty.?

Doesn’t make it right though QB.
I’ve locked up Cons who have been wrongly imprisoned, their lives are totally ruined even when cleared on appeal. Penalties against the accusers are nothing in comparison to innocent lives ruined.
Anonymity should beheld till proven guilty.

Yes, I agree. If cases have reached a plateau of 30 odd thousand new cases a day, that is a very high plateau.Kendhni wrote: 03 Oct 2021, 21:38

I read that 11000 people have died since so called Freedom Day, I haven't checked that figure, but it would seem about correct. In any event, it's a lot of people. The NHS are stretched already and it's only October, so there's no slack in the system.
Schools are in a mess too. I believe the ONS figure last week said that 1 in 21 children aged 10 - 14 have the virus, which again seems very high. In places like Kettering, where the virus has really taken hold in schools, the figures are really grim.
Although the Government figures say that new cases are fairly steady, the Zoe figures are showing a daily increase in new cases.
I'd feel a lot happier if new cases weren't so persistently high

I predict the worst is now over, with a gradual reduction in cases to a potential longterm acceptable level.Gill W wrote: 04 Oct 2021, 16:49Yes, I agree. If cases have reached a plateau of 30 odd thousand new cases a day, that is a very high plateau.Kendhni wrote: 03 Oct 2021, 21:38

Which is also why those that want the death sentence reinstated should never be allowed to win in any society that considers itself to be civilised.

Re: Current Affairs
Glass half full or half empty?
Yesterday the media were reporting that 20% of forecourts in London and the South East had run out of fuel. Which means that 80% hadn't. Which of course isn't much of a story.
And in most other places it was pretty much back to normal. As I was out and about every garage I passed was open, had fuel and only had the usual two or three cars filling up. No queues. No panic. No problem. No story.
