Re: Current Affairs
That, Gill, highlights a major underlying problem, Johnson has made it acceptable in politics to be a liar, and unfortunately this cancer is spreading throughout the political class, particularly Conservatives. It is also endemic within the civil service. Sadly I think integrity and honour are no more in some quarters ... just feed the gullible what they want to hear and then lie when you underdeliver .. this is way beyond spin and massaging of the truth that we are used to.
However so much is hitting the headlines at once that it is hard to dismiss that there may be some orchestration in all this ... from within Conservatism. Possibly the Tory leadership now believes it is time for Johnson to go; if it had not been for COVID that would probably have happened last year.

She didn't resign over the alleged party. She resigned over her crass performance in the leaked video, in which, incidentally, she was asked to respond to Twitter rumours of a party, not facts.

I don't think Boris is the first PM to lie. Blair took us to war by lying to us. More serious than a Christmas party in my view.Kendhni wrote: 09 Dec 2021, 15:06That, Gill, highlights a major underlying problem, Johnson has made it acceptable in politics to be a liar, and unfortunately this cancer is spreading throughout the political class, particularly Conservatives. Probably the same reason we don't believe everything we read on social media, on the TV, on the radio or in the newspapers or indeed everything ANY politician tells us, including Boris and Sir Keir. As for Blair.......nuff said!!!Gill W wrote: 09 Dec 2021, 14:49
I don't understand why anybody would belive anything anymore that emanates from Johnson and his regime.

Re: Current Affairs
That's the video I alluded to. If Allegra Stratton had to resign because she joked about a the party, then Rees - Mogg should resign as well.
However, you have to make a judgement call on what to believe or not, based on past performance - you learn who is reliable and who is not.oldbluefox wrote: 09 Dec 2021, 15:19Probably the same reason we don't believe everything we read on social media, on the TV, on the radio or in the newspapers or indeed everything ANY politician tells us, including Boris and Sir Keir. I made my judgement call on Boris Johnson some time ago, and each day that passes confirms to me that nearly everything that comes out of his mouth is not to be trusted.
Are there really still people who haven't made that judgement, or have they chosen to believe that they can trust him ( which would be even more mind boggling)

I didn't say she did design over the party but her resignation came as a direct result of that party taking place.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 09 Dec 2021, 15:15She didn't resign over the alleged party. I forgot Johnson lives next door to Number 10 in a flat, he didn't pay for but told everyone that he did pay for it, out of his own pocket. Another pork pie.

When he finally gets the push, he could set himself up as a maker of finest pork pies…after all he knows all the ingredients.

If Johnson claimed he was selling pork pies then the last thing I would expect in them would be pork and I would even be dubious about the pie bit.

One thing in all this is certain, whatever the truth about parties or gatherings or wallpaper.
That is that many of the very people attacking Boris now are the ones responsible for putting him in Downing Street. If Remoaners, Hard Brexiteers, the Labour Party, the Lib Dems and the SNP hadn't conspired and manoeuvred to stop Theresa May delivering the result of a democratic referendum and Brexit he would never have become PM.

Very true, and it ought to be a sobering thought to the ones you mention, but they all seem to lack foresight, so continue to make poor decisions.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 09 Dec 2021, 22:12One thing in all this is certain, whatever the truth about parties or gatherings or wallpaper.

Oh, And there was nothing democratic about that advisory referendum.
