I can leave a key under the front door mat if anyone needs accommodation - I'm off to the north-west next week
Forum party anyone? :D

Not a bad idea Foxy.

Something to think about once and if normality ever returns. Take over a hotel for a weekend, sound good to me. Merv said he'd get the first round in.
I’d be up for it  …so expect a low turn out :)

I am more surprised at the lies and the amount of taking the public for fools rather than simply admitting they did get caught with their fingers in the cookie jar, no excuses. Even when it was obvious they had been caught they tried to change the narrative by saying social distancing was observed (which even from the photos available at the time was an out-and-out lie). Johnson should try something totally new and alien to him ... be honest.

Apparently 25% of English Football League players have refused the Covid vaccination https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59702363

Simple - shut all football down until they are vaccinated.

They are breaking the law anyway as I do not recall there being any differentiation between players and spectators having to have a Covid pass to enter a football ground where the capacity requires it.

I don’t visit either so don’t know but my wife said it was leaked recommendation issued by SAGE.

If it's not on Twitface it's not true.

Shropshire North by election

It was simple tactical voting. Not a vote for any particular party, just a vote to stop a Conservative win. It worked. The Tories had held that seat for nearly 200 years, but even in a safe Conservative seat like than it seemed people had had enough. Of course, the ironic thing is, that there didn't even need to be a by election until Johnson tried to change the rules on MP's behaviour, to try and get the previous incumbent of the seat off the hook. Talk about a self inflicted wound!

Investigation into parties.

Not surprisingly. Cabinet Secretary Simon Case, the person who was going to do the investigation into the parties, was aware of a party in his own office - so he was hardly going to find any wrongdoing as a result of the other parties. The question is, did he declare his position If not, why not. If he did, why was he still tasked with the investigation. It's all very shady. Let's hope the new investigator didn't spend all last Christmas partying.

Omicron.

If there is to be a lockdown, they need it sooner than 'after Christmas'. Omicron is very transmissible and is spreading like mad in London and the rest of the country won't be far behind. They need to slow down the spread pronto. The boosters take time to take effect and hopefully masks and people changing their behaviour might help, the question is, is it enough. We locked down on Wednesday, and will keep our heads down during this spike

We're imposing our own near lockdown too. But of course we're retired so it's not too difficult. I suspect most sensible people who can are also doing so.

I also suspect those who are less sensible or for whom it is more financially ruinous would raise a riot if it came before Christmas.

I agree on health grounds it should. But with other considerations I doubt it will. I also doubt it would get through the Commons. They had enough trouble with Plan B.

After all the recriminations and uproar over Christmas last year when Boris was held personally responsible for spoiling it I suspect the government will be loathe to apply any restrictions this time around and will trust the common sense approach. What happens after Christmas we'll just have to wait and see. Whatever Boris does will be wrong in some quarters.

We are avoiding any crowded situations, have been for quite a while and follow all the usual precautions much as we did last year.

Odd comment from Sadiq Khan on the situation in London. He says the really bad news is that the vast, vast majority in hospital are unvaccinated.

I'd say the really bad news would be if the majority in hospital had been vaccinated.

I'm not really surprised that the variant has spread as quickly as it has. There was a time when the government were crying out for arms to jab, too many people seemed to think the pandemic was over, too many not wearing masks, ignoring sanitising stations. Add into the mix the antivaxers and it was a disaster waiting to happen. Mixed messages or stupidity of some of our fellow citizens?

My vote is for stupidity.

As they said at the beginning there are two risk factors for Covid in the UK.

The density of the population.

And the density of the population.

Well if covid continues to cull the more dense in our population, then maybe there will be long term benefits. :o

There'll be a few antivaxers coming to the realisation they got it wrong and Dr Tracey on Twitter was talking a load of baloney. Sadly for some it will be too late.

I think the rush to get jabbed now, and not just boosters, suggests the message is finally sinking in. Though I do still see posts on Facecloth insisting Omicron and the numbers are made up to scare people.

Going back to my earlier reservation about the reality of lockdown before Christmas I have just read that the madness and violence has started in London already. That's just with Plan B.

With the NHS in London on its knees and a major incident declared today what part of this crisis do these cretins not understand? And please don't insult my intelligence by suggesting it's justified because a bunch of Civil Servants had a party.
