Meanwhile, it emerges that Johnson didn’t attend yesterday’s Cobra meeting. Johnson has to take one of the most important decisions of the pandemic so far, and he can’t even be bothered to attend the meeting.

If omicron is generally only mild for fully vaccinated people, why should it be carnage on a cruise ship?

I am not sure that we are looking at "one of the most important decisions" - there have been many decisions that, in my opinion, have been more important.

Do we know the reason why "he can't be bothered" to attend? It has been reported many times that the PM does not attend all of the Cobra meetings - in fact I believe he attends very few of them.

So the UK government is sending another £200m to Scotland to bail out businesses affected by Covid. I presume Mrs Krankie will be reminding them it wouldn't have been available if they'd voted for independence. And worse had they stayed in the EU they'd have been begging Brussels for vaccines.

Define mild.

In case you haven't noticed, Omicron is extremely transmissible. Apart from the Oslo incidence right at the start of Omicron, there have been several cases where groups of fully vaxxed people, who have met up - and they did a LFT before meeting - but subsequently all (or nearly all) tested positive a few days later.

Now, replicate that on a cruise ship where people are living in close quarters....... see what I mean?

As far as I'm aware, no reason has been given.
I know it's not expected that a PM should attend all COBRA meetings. But in the currently situation, where Omicron is spreading fast, and he has got to make a decision about how to deal with it, it's not unreasonable to think a leader would make a bit of an effort to attend

From what I have read the Cobra meeting yesterday was to discuss the situation with the devolved nations - not to make any decisions about the way forward in England.

Raab has totally undermined the claims of a work meeting. if they had a little get together then so what, many people 'bent' the rules last christmas (and at other times when it suited them) ... just stop the incessant stream of lies.

Here is something I learned over the weekend. A chap I know was released from prison early this year ... the house he has been given is lovely, just refurbished with everything new in it. While in prison, he swapped his alcohol addiction for a cannabis one (apparently it is widely available in prison). Now that he is out, our wonderful welfare system gives him an additional £150 per week to fund his habit (on top of his other benefits) !!!!

I think we are getting back in to the situation where those who want to isolate are making the personal decision to do so, and those who don’t are going down the pub.
Those choosing to isolate have nothing to fear from the others because they are not mixing with anyone.

The report states that there were NO restrictions in private gardens, albeit they would follow shortly thereafter ... guilty of nothing therefore.

For goodness sake don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. Others on the forum have already decided a crime was committed. Who are you to argue?

And why are we wasting money on an investigation when the forum experts, Twitter and that well known right wing publication, the Guardian, already have it sorted?

A very positive report from S Africa on the news this lunchtime, despite the high tranmissibilty of omicron the hospitalisation and death rates remain way below the same levels of the earlier waves, despitevthe much lower vaccination rates than we have. The only uncertainty is that the average age in S Africa is a lot lower than in the UK, which could possibly be helping their data.
By the way Gill, Carnage is the deliberate mass killing of people, which I hope you agree was a somewhat excessive term to apply to covid outbreaks on cruise ships.
