By the way Gill, Carnage is the deliberate mass killing of people, which I hope you agree was a somewhat excessive term to apply to covid outbreaks on cruise ships.
I've always been a bit worried about RCI.....

Should there be a Christmas lockdown?
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/number-10-ref ... 31452.html

Given recent actions I think it would probably end up being a lockdown in name only ... some people will follow the guidelines, others will do as they see their leaders doing and ignore it. So I don't think it would work.

Not if venues were forced to close as there would be nowhere to go.

Any form of "lockdown" five days before Christmas would be political suicide, and it would not be much better if it was between Christmas and New Year - and yes I know that there should be no place for politics in Covid, but there is no getting away from it.

Agreed

What our leaders did or didn't do is a red herring. Only a selfish moron would put their own and others' health and/or lives at risk because someone else did. And if they're that selfish and moronic they'll do it anyway.

The report states that there were NO restrictions in private gardens, albeit they would follow shortly thereafter ... guilty of nothing therefore.
Not sure if it's a private garden if they are supposed to be at work?

However, in May 2020, I'm fairly certain that you couldn't have multiple people drinking in your private back garden. I can't be bothered to look it up, but at that time I think we could see one person for exercise, but if they dared sit on a park bench during their walk they'd have a policeman with a megaphone telling them to move on. In fact, I expect there are posts on this forum from the time complaining about selfish people having parties in their back garden!

And why are we wasting money on an investigation when the forum experts, Twitter and that well known right wing publication, the Guardian, already have it sorted?
I said above that I couldn't be bothered to look it up.

But, I did a Google search for you, didn't even have to look at the Guardian or Twitter

Johnson's speech from 28 May 2020

https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/ ... 8-may-2020

It clearly says that people could at that time. meet in parks but not in private gardens

On the following Monday, they were going to allow 6 people to meet outside, so that would have been 31st May.

This photo is said to have taken place on 15th May 2020 - so at that time they were not allowed to met at all in a private garden, let allone 15 - 20 people

Obviously, I meant it figuratively, not literally !!

However, substitute it for ' a large outbreak of Omicron in a closed community'.

By the way, what was your definition of 'mild'

See Moby. I told you an official investigation is a waste of money. A Google search is all that's needed to establish the facts. Maybe the Old Bailey could adopt that approach too.

Indeed you did and why not ?

Those of us who know the ropes would obviously appreciate that inviting work colleagues into one's garden for a periodic ' thank you ' glass of wine and some nibbles is a time honored custom. One's garden being an excellent choice as it is less formal and far more relaxing than being in the office space where rank dominates.

I was thinking more personal behaviour rather than commercial ... but that is a good point!

The decision makers are between a rock and a hard place. Last Christmas many ignored the advice anyway or bent the rules to suit their own interpretations. We have plans to meet up with friends and family over the next few days, but if that is not possible then we will just do what we did last year and pile onto zoom for the day.

What we do know is that the Omicron variant is/will impact of those in hospital with the Delta virus
I listened to a frontline nurse saying 8 out of 10 with the Omicron variant were unvaccinated so it could be said that carnage could indeed be applicable when/if vaccinated Delta patient succumb due to overstretched resources.

Not nit picking, but is the garden at Downing Street not a ‘recreational’ area as opposed to a private garden.?

Asking for a friend.

All the Prisons I worked in had a garden cum outside area for use of.!

Staff not Cons, they had a lovely exercise yard.

Indeed I did not. I don't rate a quick flip through Google as robust fact checking. But if you're happy with that let's cancel the official inquiry.

Hmmm. Make sense of this on the BBC News website.

In the Covid graphs they show the number of people in hospital with Covid as down by 133.

In the text they say the number of people in hospital with Covid is increasing slightly.

One thing that they are very quick to tell us is how many are being admitted to hospital - what they don't go on to say is how many are bring discharged.

I also think that when they quote the hospital admissions they should also state how many of those admissions are the unvaccinated.

Unfortunately a lot of information on the internet is given in a biased manner, there really is no vanilla version of the news.
My "mild" comment was taken straight from the BBC reporter which I did indicate was my source, however I dont have his phone number for you to ask him for his source.
