Re: Current Affairs
Very mixed reactions on that. On the news this morning some of the commentators were saying it was a slap in the face for those that have been vaccinated and a huge propaganda coup for anti-vaxers.

Re: Current Affairs
The Judge clearly followed the letter of the law in making this judgment but it will have sent a clear message to the people of Australia that there’s one rule for them and one rule for others.
The immigration authorities might still have a say on this so it’s not over till the first ball is hit.

It sounds as if the appeal was won on a flaw in the process by which the border forces acted. The government may yet cancrl the visa again.

Couldn't agree more albeit we have yet to fully identify what our new normal is going to be.Gill W wrote: 09 Jan 2022, 16:53I can only plan my own life, regardless of what the government messaging is.
I will continue to monitor the progress of the pandemic as much as I can, and , as now use this information to inform my actions when I go on any outings. Although, I suspect the government will soon be withdraw it's daily information, so this will become increasingly more difficult.
Unfortunately, some of the things I used to enjoy like cruising and going to the theatre will be off the agenda, in favour of things like self catering holidays, where I can maintain a bit of distance and go to places at quieter times. Also, I'll continue to wear my mask, and take any vaccinations that are offered. This, for me is 'living with it'. An acceptance that life has changed and that 2019 is not coming back.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

A judge ruled that border officials did not follow the correct procedures when the tennis star arrived last week.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 09:35It sounds as if the appeal was won on a flaw in the process by which the border forces acted. The government may yet cancrl the visa again.
So the rules of entry may still apply, they must be mulling over the way forward so as not to lose face.
Don't worry, be happy

I think you're right. My feeling is they'll lose more face if they let him ride roughshod over rules that apply to everyone else. In fairness to all it sounds as if it's the tennis authorities who've screwed up by giving him the impression their exemption to take part trumps national border rules.Ray B wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 10:40A judge ruled that border officials did not follow the correct procedures when the tennis star arrived last week.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 09:35It sounds as if the appeal was won on a flaw in the process by which the border forces acted. We all have to decide what is right for us. I'd like it to be close to the old normal - I'd certainly like to feel free to travel and cruise again. In making our decisions I'll take my guidance from scientists and government rather than media or social media - especially not the latter.Manoverboard wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 10:01We have yet to fully identify what our new normal is going to be.
Some changes would be for the better if kept. I'd welcome a bit of social distancing. It might save my ankles from being hit by trolleys in supermarket queues and at airport check-ins.

Just listened to the mother and father of Djokovic giving an interview…they exclaimed they didn’t know if he was getting fed or being tortured while being quarantine???Mervyn and Trish wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 11:57I think you're right. Why would they not know that as that is possibly what may happen in some Serbian prisonsOnelife wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 13:38they didn’t know if he was getting fed or being tortured while being quarantine

That is so laughable, but let's not be harsh on them after all it did use to be a penal settlement, they maybe think it still is.Onelife wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 13:38Just listened to the mother and father of Djokovic giving an interview…they exclaimed they didn’t know if he was getting fed or being tortured while being quarantine???Mervyn and Trish wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 11:57I think you're right. Re: Current Affairs
What I am finding somewhat bemusing is Nigel Farage's stance on this. Was he not campaigning not so long ago for the UK to take control of its borders but when Australia does that exact thing it is wrong!!

Maybe a mixed reaction from the crowd as he has a lot of supporters who feel he has been hard done by but I imagine many Australians will feel very much aggrieved and will let their feelings be known.Gill W wrote: 10 Jan 2022, 16:30If they do let him play. Have you noticed that Novak Djokovic has taken the heat off our government. Boris has had a few nights sleep while the press is otherwise engaged.

Unusually for once, the media is united in its condemnation of Johnson and his continual lies .. even the most straw-clutching sycophants are struggling to come up with excuses for him. In this case though the main offence seems to be at his sneering, smirking and giggling when asked about it and side stepping questions by saying it would fall into the hands of the public enquiry (which now that they have removed his crony may actually get to the truth).
