Not being an English grammar teacher, would you have been on most of them except Arvia. 🤔

Mi skool was a sekundre modun skool.
In the 50s I can not remember the English Master going into 1st 2nd 3rd persons or past present future tenses. It wasn't until I took Spanish lessons that those and a lot more were explained in depth. Surprisingly most of the adult class were like me and were able then to understand the Spanish and our English sentences make up
English grammar taught in schools today is far more superior.

In answer to the question, I have been on all the small ships up to Ventura and Azura.
Not been on Britannia and the big ships.

I am like Merv, I just need Arvia for a full house, although its 20 years since I sailed on Arcadia.

Done a ship visit on Arcadia. Didn’t appeal.
Been on Oriana, Oceana, Aurora, Ventura, Azura and Britannia.

Not sure about the new monstrosities.

Yes I'd agree. We were very wary but loved her. Hence booking on Arvia.

Never been on the big ones, but it's interesting that so many sing the praise of Avia and Iona. My impressions are that it's crowded and queues at the popular venues or places are booked up.
How can you sell these ships to myself and Stephen to try and clear the fog through which we are thinking.
The prices look attractive but the concern of being surrounded by screaming kids running a mock during school holidays, swimming pools taken over by them don't bare thinking about.
Can you dispel these thoughts.

I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere in school holidays.

From what I remember having looked online, the cabins look very tight on Iona and Arvia. I like a bit of room.

Out of school hols there won't be many kids. We never had any problem booking or doing what we wanted. Loads of choice of venues. We booked deluxe balcony cabins which were lovely and spacious.

Out of school holidays sounds promising, that's one positive.
Granddaughter wants us to take her and mum on a cruise, but it has to be peak season as she is still at collage. Its finding a ship that will be in budget, we've took them on Ventura and Azura so looking around at different ships.

Well our Iona trip with our daughter and granddaughters was school holidays so for the most part you'd be right, pools full of kids, but it doesn't feel so bad when two of them are yours. And one day, while in port, after going ashore in the morning, one of the granddaughters and I had one of the pools completely to ourselves for half an hour in the afternoon. And there was never a time we couldn't find a quiet spot. Against the odds disembarkation at ports wasn't an issue, and the final disembarkation in Southampton was one of the fastest and smoothest we've ever had.

I travelled on Iona last June with son’s in-laws - majority of children were babies and under school age - there were some who should have been in school but very few. Initially thought I wasn’t going to like the ship - it seemed so large and confusing but changed my mind after a few days. Balcony cabins were spacious - spent a lot of time on the balcony - weather was so good. No problems getting on and off the ship, the food choice was very good and the crew very friendly.

I’m going on Iona again Whitsun week - school holidays - again to the fjords but won’t be using the pools - I’d rather watch the world go by from the balcony. Travelling with my son and family plus in-laws so quite an age range! It will be interesting to see whether they enjoy it as much as we did.

I agree with Merv - disembarkation was very quick at Southampton.

Thank you again, very positive replies but what about eating in the MDR and speciality restaurants, is it easy to do or again are there queues. Same with the entertainment venues. There was discussions on some of these being fully booked because selfishness of pasengers prebooking weeks in advance, how do these play out.

We didn’t use the speciality restaurants so can’t help you there Ray - we ate in the dining rooms every evening - if I remember rightly we didn’t use the “app” we just turned up. The only queues we found were in the fast food restaurants on deck 8 - fish and chips, SF chicken etc. However we just turned around and went to the buffet or dining room for lunch. We found it a very light and airy ship - no dark corners - plenty of seating but I’m expecting it to be different in school holidays! Because there are so many passengers we did have to book for the theatre and the entertainment in the dome on top deck. Shows were repeated over two nights so always managed to get a seat. I may have a different view of things after the Whitsun school holiday cruise - I’ll report back then Ray.

With the children and only being on for one week we didn't book any specialty restaurants. We ate in the MDRs (tried three of them), the buffet (which suited one of the girls especially), and the Quays.

Had no problem getting to see the entertainment we wanted in the theatre and the dome and the show lounge. Or getting into the bars we fancied - mainly the Crow's Nest.

Again thank you.It does sound promising to give them a try. My big problem now is getting Mrs B to change her mind and at least consider a go. She is sticking her heels in, simular to OLs nags at the start line.
We're there any downsides to throw in the mix?
I look forward to your report Jan.

Ray I was determined it would be too big but changed my mind as I’ve said. I’ve liked Britannia from the first cruise on her and had two amazing Christmas cruises on her but always felt her balconies were too small - much prefer those on Azura and Ventura C deck but Iona’s are much better and when the family open all the linked doors it’s very spacious.

If everyone on here had a whip round for me to cover the cost of short taster cruise on either Iona or Arvia I’m quite prepared to give it ago.

Stephen, you're not slow coming forward. I'm sure someone on here can help, like Merv, he's got deep pockets, trouble is to deep to reach his money. 😂

I invested all my spare cash in keeping Towny temporarily refreshed. I'm recharging the wallet now.
