Why is there Gay Pride but not Straight Pride? Seems like discrimination.
On a forum I once saw the question "do P&O have LGBT nights?" and the answer from another person was "Yes, every night. Because every night is for everybody". That would be a good mantra for P&O or any cruise company to adopt. They don't need to promote any one section of the population above anyone else.
I lived and worked in Blackpool where there was a strong gay scene but they just got on with their lives and it didn't bother the rest of us. Each to their own but that was in the days before flag waving and feeling the need to tell everybody about it. Live and let live.
Actually we once had a night out at Funny Girls in Blackpool and it was very good, very well staged and very amusing. Better and more classy than some of the seedy, straight joints we could have gone to.
I agree, live and let live. I don't go round boasting about my sexuality and don't care about anyone else's. I actually have a friend who was thrown out of a gay bar for being straight!

We had a couple gay men on our table of six last night. Pleasant enough and had a good conversation with them.
I usually like to raise a toast when we have all got our wine at the start of dinner with a usual ‘cheers everyone’. I nearly said ‘bottoms up’ but thought better of it considering the company
I have a family member and two friends who are gay, lovely chaps, down to earth and not in your face. We allways have a good time when they come to ours or in restaurants. Like Foxy, I can't stand the parades and flag waving bit.
Whats with the news P&O Australia are finished. Carnival intend to take over down there.
If you read the cruise industry news it states that the Carnival cruise line brand is the highest returning brand, so I assume they are looking to slim down the P&O Australia cost structure to increase profits in line with Carnival cruise lines profitabilty. This will probably mean increased prices, and if successfull I wonder whether CCL will look to use the same surgery on any of their other brands?

Apparently it has lot to do with the fact that P&O AU only has two ships and the overheads of running a separate operation are just not economically viable (or at least that is Moleys view) with possibly Costa being next.
You do have to wonder whether P&O UK is also being prepared to go the same way with the way in which it is becoming more aligned with the American brands.

That's exactly the same article I read In cruise news, I have not been able to read Moleys appraisal since I am serving a short suspension for daring to mention politics, even if it was in a joke.

That really was the way I was leaning David. We have all seen a takeover of companies by a major player and slowly over time the name of smaller companies absorbed into the takeover company.
Did not realise how small P&O Australia was having only two ships.

I can see the logic of this move but can't see it as a threat in the short term to P&O here. They are the biggest cruise line operating out of the UK with seven ships and a success very much based on their "Britishness", despite their actual US ownership. I doubt Carnival would risk that.

I would not disagree but how many of the "new" passenger demographic are bothered about the "Britishness"? I could see an argument that the target market would lean more towards the brashness of the American style of ship.
A good point but with Sterling as the onboard currency and huge Union Jacks on the ship bows it seems to matter to Carnival. I don't think the brashess is anywhere even close to the Carnival brand.

TBH I would welcome a little more brashness from P&O, especially from the new ships. These make very little use of the large atrium compared with Princess where there are groups performing every night in their Piazza equivalent, and when it's the party band there is plenty of dancing taking place. But P&O seem to go in for overkill in the Skydome, with regular entertainment there, but we quickly tired of the silly shows which take hours to set up, reducing the pool time for passengers, and where the acoustics are truly awful for any music.
Changing the onboard currency to USD would only be a matter of flipping a switch (Oh silly me that would involve P&Os IT )
Cunard operate in USD and don't appear to have any problems with UK passengers not accepting it - although I do concede that the transition would not go down well with hoards of passengers vowing to never cruise with P&O again - that is until their next cruise!
