The Official Autopost bot is something that brings posts made by P&O on their Facebook page over onto this forum.
A bot is a small program that reads data posted on a web site and depending on the bot it will then carry out a task. For example there are Google bots that will scan the page so that the content can be indexed and then found when you do a Google search.
Some bots are used to target advertising at your browser but not all.

Then start some new topicsOnelife wrote: 16 Aug 2024, 14:45Just my opinion, but I think the current affairs thread stifles new topics of discussion because new topics don’t get time to establish themselves before another current affair topic supersedes the previous one.

Since responding to an existing thread is far easier than starting a new one, then I think closing down the Current affairs thread is likely to lead to a reduction in activity.Onelife wrote: 16 Aug 2024, 14:59With respect David, I’ve started more topics on this forum than anyone else, so I think I’m doing my bit for the forum.
All that needs to happen is for you to scrap the current affairs thread and let members post new current affairs topics under their own thread.
This of course won’t stop the frequency of the auto posts but it will, I believe, create more discussion on individual current affairs posts.

That is the nature of fora - they are all the same.Onelife wrote: 16 Aug 2024, 16:36John,
I’m not talking about responding to an existing thread, I’m talking about responding to a new post on an existing thread that doesn’t get much/any replies because it is superseded by the next post of a different topic.

There were two reasons 1. it was getting too long and 2. it made sense to have a new one for each year otherwise it would have to be renamed as "Past Affairs" (and I know exactly what I put there)Stephen wrote: 16 Aug 2024, 16:25Shame that wasn’t the case with my original ‘Current Affairs’ thread which got put on the back burner when a new one got introduced, by the boss of all people.

I knew what you were talking about, but each different topic in a main thread would need to start with a new thread.Onelife wrote: 16 Aug 2024, 16:36John,
